Fundraising Opportunities to Preserve Eagle Mountain Lake

SEML (Save Eagle Mountain Lake) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.  It was established in 1985 with the goal to preserve and protect the ecological environment and quality of Eagle Mountain Lake and its watershed by promoting community awareness, engagement, and advocacy.

Their three main objectives are:
  • Save Eagle Mountain Lake for the enjoyment of future generations.
  • Save and protect Eagle Mountain Lake from the negative effects of population expansion.
  • Engage the community in partnerships that foster the quality of Eagle Mountain Lake for all.
Throughout the years, SEML has had many accomplishments. The organization serves as the eyes and ears of Eagle Mountain Lake.  They have contributed to the establishment of Eagle Mountain Park, the Watershed Protection Plan Development, opposed the 170 bridge across Eagle Mountain Lake, and conducted annual lake clean-ups. Perhaps their most significant achievement was petitioning the Texas Water Commission to declare a moratorium for new permits for sewage disposal into the lake, which was granted in 1985 and is now determined by TCEQ.  Funding for a lot of this work comes from fundraisers, such as the annual Eagle Mountain Lake Parade of Lights.

The Eagle Mountain Lake Parade of Lights has been a holiday tradition for over 35 years!

This is a fun family and community event to celebrate the holidays and to celebrate Eagle Mountain Lake. The parade of boats decorated with holiday lights, along with enthusiastic and well-adorned enthusiastic crew members, make their way from West Bay Marina and continue along a parade route ending at The Lake House for the awards ceremony. This year’s parade featured a partnership with Toys-for-Tots, and the boating community really exceeded expectations as over 200 toys were collected and $1,000 in donations came in for the T4T program.

Another major fundraiser for the organization is the SEML Annual Golf Tournament. This typically takes place in April and is held at The Golf Club at The Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake. Twenty-five teams compete for prizes, awards, and most importantly – Bragging Rights!  This year there were three hole-in-one prizes (one of which was a brand-new Falcon Bass Boat donated by the Lakeview Boating Center), long drive competitions, closest-to-the-pin awards, a putting competition, and, of course, low-score trophies!

There are a lot of generous businesses and individuals that sponsor and support the SEML through the parade and the golf tournament.  These events not only support the operations of SEML but they create awareness of the organization so that it can effectively execute objectives.

One other way of getting involved is to become a member of SEML! When you do this, you are making an impact to preserve the beauty and quality of Eagle Mountain Lake.
