I’M DREAMING OF A LOCAL CHRISTMAS!

Did you know that when you support a small business, you support a family?  By spending money at these establishments, you are helping a family pay their mortgage payment, fill up their gas tank, put their child through college, and buy groceries to feed their family.  These small businesses create more jobs in our area, help stimulate our local economy, and build a stronger community with a better place for us to live.

This year I want to challenge our neighborhood to put their Christmas money back into our community by shopping for gifts and gift cards at local and family-owned businesses in our area this holiday season.  I had the opportunity to visit with business owners and their employees while checking out their gift shops and inquiring about gift cards to their establishments.   During those visits, I learned how they got their start, and I am excited to share them with you.

Red Door Pharmacy and Gifts – Farmhouse to Table Boutique – Touch of Chic Boutique – Rhinestone Ranch – Fossil Creek Tree Farm – Beautifully Blooming Flower Shop

Red Door Pharmacy and Gifts is locally owned and operated by Randy and Katy Shipp who were both raised in a small town in Texas where you knew everyone and were treated like family when you visited the pharmacy.  They moved to Haslet, TX in 2013 with their two boys (Clayton and Conner) because of the small-town feel.  They opened Red Door Pharmacy and Gifts in 2017 because they knew they could provide a better pharmacy experience than what was being offered by the big box stores.  The pharmacy is a full-service pharmacy and drive-thru that offers custom compounded medications where they accept almost all insurance plans and copays are the same as in the big box stores.  They have a unique gift selection where you can purchase Christmas gifts, Texas-made gifts, ice cream, and even firearms.

Josh and Terra Richards are former residents of The Resort and are the hearts behind Fossil Creek, a family-owned and operated tree farm, nursery, and landscaping service. Since 2011, their mission has been simple: To use their God-given talents and passions to inspire, educate, and serve others in their community.  Josh, a third-generation business owner in the Fort Worth area, grew up playing in his grandparents’ small grocery store on Boat Club Road. Another Fort Worth native, Terra grew up watching her dad operate a successful drywall business with care and compassion for both his employees and customers.  Their entrepreneurial spirit and creative passion drove them to transform Fossil Creek into so much more than a tree farm.   Visit their gift shop, The Haven, to see their Christmas collection for gift ideas.

GIFT CARDS FOR STOCKING STUFFERS
Atheneum - Bungee Studios - Pizza Bistro - Chuy’s – Lakehouse

Atheneum Cider was founded by Brennan and Lizzy Couey, who decided they needed to introduce some excitement into their boring, suburban lives. Beginning as a side-project done between brewing batches of beer, it did not take long for cider to take over all of the kegs in their kegerator.  With an abundance of cider waiting to be kegged, they began inviting their neighbors to grab a glass whenever they wanted one. Eventually, word spread, and more people began talking about their creations and Atheneum Cider was born.   They experiment with all kinds of ingredient combinations and different strains of yeast, including wild ones.

They are located at 12509 N Saginaw Blvd in Fort Worth.  They are open Wed-Sat 4 pm-10 pm. (817) 476-0931 www.atheneumcider.com

Bungee Studios was started by two of our Resort residents, Lauren DeRosa, and Amber Gill in 2021.   After viewing a TikTok video about bungee fitness, Amber had to share it with her best friend Lauren.  They knew immediately that this was something their community needed.  They got to work and opened their studio six months later.   Bungee Fitness is for everyone regardless of their fitness level.  It is a fun, low-impact, high-intensity, unique approach to bungee-style workouts.  While harnessed in, you use your body weight and the resistance of the bungees to tone muscles and burn calories.  You can purchase class passes, monthly memberships, and gift cards.

They are located at 2720 Western Center Blvd. Suite 320, in Fort Worth.  (817) 383-2378

Pizza Bistro (formerly Pizza Buffet) was founded by Meagan and Duane Mainville who were born and raised in Canada and met while working and managing a successful restaurant & bar. Being entrepreneurs, they switched gears and purchased an advertising business, which brought them to Fort Worth, Texas.  After selling the business in 2015, they worked on plans to open their new restaurant, The Pizza Buffet.  It was launched in March 2016 and soon after, their longtime friends, Dale and Amy Flint joined them as business partners.  In 2020, Covid 19 forced them to get creative and modify their buffet-style concept to a table service restaurant and rename it The Pizza Bistro.   They invest in their employees and prioritize being strong community partners.  You always see The Pizza Bistro at the community events supporting the local schools, churches, police/fire departments, and neighbors.

They have two locations:  8545 Boat Club Rd, in Fort Worth.  (817) 708-2828 (Dine In, Carry Out & Delivery), and 750 W. Bonds Ranch Rd, in Fort Worth.  (817) 617-7868 (Carry Out & Delivery) www.pizzatx.com

Jesus Adame “Chuy” started the original Chuy’s Mexican restaurant just a few blocks from the Fort Worth Stockyards, in 1982.  With the help of three generations, Chuy’s legacy has continued to grow by establishing multiple restaurants in the Fort Worth area.  The restaurant is known for its delicious fajitas, Menudo, and Caldo de Res.  It is also popular for its Mexican breakfasts of traditional chorizo, egg breakfast platters, and Carne Guisada platters which are all served with handmade tortillas.   They set the mood with good ol’ traditional Mexican music that takes you back in time to when life was simple, and you could kick back and relax with good food and people.  It makes a great atmosphere to watch your favorite sports teams play!

They are located at 9120 Boat Club Rd, in Fort Worth.  Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 11 AM–8 PM, Saturday 9 AM-8 PM, and Sunday 9 AM-3 PM.  (817) 507-5445  For other locations and hours check out their website.  www.chuysftw.com

The Lakehouse owners Brett Fields and John St Germain began a lifelong friendship when they met in high school and became fast friends through football and compatible work ethics.   They began their restaurant journeys together at a flagship shop (now a prominent chain restaurant) with humble beginnings as maintenance boys and dishwashers.  Fast forward to the winter of 2018. Brett and his wife Ally were working in the DFW metroplex, and Johnny and his wife Jordan, a teacher at Eagle Mountain Elementary School were living out this way.  Together they saw a “FOR LEASE” sign pop up outside of Harbor One and there was zero hesitation to start a restaurant together because of their compatible friendship and their love for this community.  They want The Lakehouse to provide a place where families in our area can spend quality time together and make memories.  That is sure to happen with their delicious menu items and a packed calendar of live music, trivia, and karaoke nights.

They are located at 9307 Boat Club Rd in Fort Worth, Tx.  Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 5 PM-12 AM, Friday-Sunday 11 AM-12 AM with the kitchen closing at 10 PM every night.  (817) 386-3156 www.thelakehousefw.com
