FATHERS & FINE RIDES

There’s something timeless about a man and the machine he loves.
Maybe it’s the craftsmanship. Maybe it’s the history behind the wheel. Or maybe it’s the feeling these cars create. Freedom. Adrenaline. Nostalgia. The memories made along the way.
In honor of Father’s Day, STROLL The Preserve celebrates three gentlemen in our community whose love for automobiles goes far beyond transportation. These neighbors aren’t simply collecting cars; they’re collecting experiences. Early morning drives. Track days. Saturday car shows. Stories shared with friends and family. The thrill of a perfectly tuned engine. The quiet joy of cruising winding roads with the windows down.
From precision-built Porsches to classic American icons, each vehicle reflects the personality and passion of the man behind the wheel.
On Terry Riney's Page:
For neighbor Terry Riney, driving is about connection, to the road, to the machine, and to the moment itself.
His 2021 Porsche GT4, finished in striking Gentian Blue Metallic, is what enthusiasts would call a true driver’s car. Equipped with a 4.0-liter engine producing 414 horsepower and paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the GT4 was engineered for performance. Terry describes it as “a pure, fine-tuned precision machine, totally connected to the road or track.” Whether he’s pushing the car through curves or winding it out to its thrilling 8,000 RPM redline, every drive delivers what he calls “music to my ears.”
A longtime Porsche enthusiast, Terry says this GT4 represents the pinnacle of the seven Porsches he and Carol have owned since 2017, including a 2015 Turbo S, 2013 Carrera S, and rare models like the 2008 Boxster RS60 and 2011 Boxster Spyder. The couple frequently participates in Porsche Club of America events, mountain drives, and gatherings with fellow enthusiasts. Terry also spends time instructing at HPDE track events at Barber Motorsports Park and enjoys local car shows hosted by MOB INC and Magic City Octane.
While the GT4 is all about precision and adrenaline, Carol’s 2020 Porsche Carrera S Cabriolet offers a different kind of experience.
Finished in elegant Chalk with a TechArt aerokit, HRE wheels, and a powerful twin-turbo engine producing 443 horsepower, the Cabriolet blends performance with sophistication. Terry describes it as the perfect car for “enjoying the drive, top down, with the crackling exhaust note on winding back roads or heading to dinner.” Of course, Carol occasionally reminds him that this Porsche is meant for spirited cruising — not the racetrack.
On Bill Sain's page:
For Preserve resident Bill Sain, cars have never simply been a hobby. They’ve been part of his story for as long as he can remember.
“I guess you could say I was born into the automobile business,” Bill says.
Growing up in Bolivar, Tennessee, Bill was surrounded by cars from an early age. His father sold Chevrolets, while his uncle sold Fords, sparking a lifelong appreciation for classic American automobiles and the stories connected to them.
Today, Bill’s collection reflects both family history and timeless craftsmanship. Featured here are two of his favorites: a black 1987 Ford Crown Victoria two-door coupe and a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis.
The Crown Victoria is especially unique, as 1987 marked the final year Ford produced the two-door coupe model, with only 5,527 ever made. Bill purchased the car in October of 1987 when it had just 455 miles on it, and today it still has only a little over 56,000 miles.
His Mercury Grand Marquis carries sentimental value as well, having originally belonged to his aunt and uncle in Tennessee before becoming part of Bill’s collection.
Beyond these featured classics, Bill also enjoys a 1973 Ford Bronco that will soon be displayed in the Town & Country Ford customs department, along with a 1968 Ford F-100 he keeps at Smith Lake for laid-back family weekends. And while it may not yet be considered vintage, Bill still believes his 2006 Lincoln Town Car is “one of the best driving cars ever made.”
For Bill, these vehicles are about far more than collecting cars. They represent family roots, craftsmanship, cherished memories, and a passion that has stayed with him throughout every season of life.
On Dr. Stephen Wallace's page:
For Dr. Stephen Wallace, cars are deeply tied to memory.
His 2014 Porsche Boxster S originally belonged to his late wife, Jeanie, who purchased the black convertible with its striking red leather interior in 2019 from a dealership in Pompano Beach, Florida. Stephen says Jeanie loved the car’s speed and personality, often joking with her signature motto: “Drive it like you stole it.”
Over time, Stephen says he has grown to love the car the same way Jeanie did.
Today, driving the Boxster is more than a hobby, it’s a connection to the life and memories they shared together. He laughs describing his trips to Birmingham Porsche for service appointments because it gives him the perfect excuse to “open it up” on the interstate and test the car’s performance. Though he jokingly admits he still enjoys pushing the speedometer well beyond the speed limit, the stories he tells are less about speed and more about the joy he and Jeanie found behind the wheel together.
One of his favorite memories dates back to the Porsche Parade Day at Barber Motorsports Park, when he and Jeanie both drove the track in their convertibles — Stephen in his 2013 Boxster and Jeanie close behind in her beloved Boxster S. It was raining, and Stephen remembers nervously glancing in the mirror as Jeanie stayed right on his tail through every turn.
“I thought we were going to wreck not one, but two Porsches that day,” he says with a laugh. “I sure do miss my car and my lead-footed wife.”
