July 4th Neighborhood Flags
Ever wonder how those little flags appear in front of each home during the July 4th period?

During each July 4th period, neighborhood volunteers place the 8-in x 12-in flags in front of each home. In addition, two 3-ft x 5-ft flags are placed at Heritage, Memorial, Founders, and Renaissance Parks. The neighborhood is divided into 15 sections which include 30-40 homes in
each section. In early June, a request for volunteers is announced on The
Preserve Facebook Page and through Helen Peavler’s email blast. Residents then volunteer to place and retrieve the flags for a section. This is an opportunity for children, teens, and adults to contribute to the community and show their patriotism. In addition to the July 4th period, flags are also displayed at the four Parks during the Memorial Day and Veterans Day
periods.
This tradition was started in by former resident Melanie Liberfinger. When Melanie moved, former resident Bruce Evans continued the tradition with assistance from select neighbors and a local Boy Scout Troup. In 2020, Harry Christiansen took over from Bruce and continues the tradition
today. Bruce also led the 2-year effort to fund and install the Town Hall flagpole, flag, and flag lights. The Town Hall flag was dedicated in 2014 with a brief presentation by former resident Colonel Ed Delk, US Army, Retired.
