5 YEARS OF STORIES

From Vision to Reality

Happy 5th Birthday Stroll

Five years ago, our magazine embarked on a journey fueled by passion, dedication, and a commitment to delivering quality content to our readers.  As we celebrate the significant milestone of being in print for 5 years, we reflect on the stories we've shared, the community we've connected, and the impact we've made.

July 2021
Longtime residents Tom and Sue Weidlich graced our inaugural issue with a perfect Moorings Beach sunset setting and an amusing story of how dinner guests thought Sue was once married to a man with hair, not knowing a photo they saw was her everlasting husband,  Tom, from years ago.  That's funny!  Thank you, Tom and Sue, for being the first to share your story with the neighborhood.

Little Madison Lee stole the show with her outgoing personality and ballerina dancing skills. We KNOW she's destined for greatness!  She, along with her mom and dad, are big time foodies which they shared in their original article. So it was only fitting that Madison went on to write a restaurant review for the magazine 3 years later.  They grow up so fast!

Mitch Fogelman just can't sit still!  If you've been a reader from the beginning, you know Mitch is an unofficial ambassador by contributing as much to Stroll as he can.  From articles such as Rate My Ride to restaurant reviews, The Beauty of The Moorings Photos, and more, Mitch is the epitome of living life to the fullest and appreciating every moment.

Traditions are a cornerstone of family values, and Stroll loves sharing the holiday traditions of different cultures.  Some we shared growing up, some we heard of but never knew the history or origins, and some we find interesting from generations passed on, but they all bring us closer together.  The Prebish family gets cozy in pj's with hot cocoa, cookies, and that crazy elf.

January 2022
Anthony was one of the first amazing kids we interviewed over the years.  It's fun to look back years later and re-read the answers to the questions, such as "What is your favorite TV show?" and "What do you want to be when you grow up?"  Sometimes kids throw us for a loop, such as when Anthony said his favorite food was Oysters and his favorite composer is Edvard Grieg!  Did not expect that answer from a kid!

February 2022
Elly and Becca Set Up For The WIN!  These two volleyball stars have been conquering the court since 8th grade and kept that championship attitude with them all the way to the Varsity team for The Community School.  They went on to college careers where they no doubt dominated academics and volleyball.  We would LOVE to do more Amazing Athletes stories, so send them in!!

March 2022
The Hale Family took us on a tour of their beautiful home, where we discovered a shower full of stuffed animals!  Yup - Rhyann is the keeper of the furry, fluffy collection, which overflowed into a funny scene we could only imagine as the gang from Toy Story coming to life when no one is looking. Perhaps their son, Xavier, and his robot-building mastermind could attempt an escape mission...  Queue the Mission: Impossible theme song.

September 2022
The endearing and heartfelt love story of Sal and Tiffany Carramico seemed like something out of a Hallmark Christmas movie.  Tiffany picked up dry cleaning where Sal worked and she noticed him peeking from the back.  Sal told his friend he was going to marry her.  The next time she came in to pick up a dress for a date, he came out and said you're not going with him, you're going out with me tonight.  More than 30 years later and 3 fine sons, she still feels the same butterflies for Sal.

December 2022
Hurricane Ian was a high-end category 4 storm with 150 mile-per-hour winds that that struck southwest Florida on September 28, 2022.  Ian left a path of flooding destruction unlike anything The Moorings had ever seen or expected. Moorings Beach was covered in sand and unrecognizable. Some lost almost all of their possessions and even their home.  A devastating time in Moorings' history, yet the neighborhood remained resilient and rebuilt better than ever. Stroll captured the stories of neighbors helping neighbors and served as a time capsule documenting this tragic yet inspirational Moorings moment in time.

Linda Hayes is someone I look up to when it comes to independence and adventure.  She has traveled extensively alone, and I don't mean a simple guided cruise or tour.  She will hike in Kazakhstan or any of the "stan" countries without hesitation.  For this particular adventure, she traveled the winding roads of Norway to heights that make my palms sweaty.  Writing the article for Stroll was a respite from dealing with the extensive damage her home tragically experienced from Hurricane Ian...and yes, she muddled through the mud, salvaging and rebuilding the home she has known for many, many years.  This is one tough lady!

November 2023
Lorna Craig is one of the most elegant and beautiful women I have ever met.  At the time of the article shown, she was 97.  She is now celebrating her 100th birthday this month, and she's sharp as a whip!  I hope to share this milestone with our readers.  In the meantime, let's reflect on the amazing life of Lorna.  She had a choice to either pursue the runway of fashion or the runway of the airlines.  She chose a career as a flight attendant, and oh, the stories she told serving celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe on her flights.

December 2023
The Carter family is just plain old fun!  The treehouse they built in the backyard is one very cool spot for the kids to explore.  Get this: Gwen wrote a book that was turned into a Hallmark Christmas movie!  They've got a ping-pong table in the backyard that doubles as a dining table.  They own a collectibles store and open their yard in the cul-de-sac for us to set up for trick-or-treating.  They were one of the first families to sign up for the 1st Golf Cart parade and have participated ever since.  Bring on more fun, Carter family!  We love it!

March 2024
Joanie and Jim Ellinghausen moved a gazillion times - living in cities across the United States and traveling the world.  But once you find your place in The Moorings, it feels like home, so THIS is where they have anchored.  Joanie is an avid home chef and baker who even wrote her own cookbook for her daughter to pass on as a wedding gift.  Can you tell by Jim's height that he is a former basketball player?  Their stunning home is full of color and texture, including walls designed by our very own sponsor, Shiree Nichole Designer Finishes.  Boring beige is a no-no in this exquisite home.

August 2024
The Dog Days of Summer indeed.  We're just about in the thick of it now, but when I saw these dogs on a walk while I was in the neighborhood, I just KNEW they were going to be my stars for August.  We don't normally showcase dogs on the cover, but had to make an exception for these cuties who make everyone get all googly when they see them.  They vacation up North for the summer and have a dog-gone time doing so.

October 2024
PINK PARTY!  Fittingly for the month of breast cancer awareness, we featured the story of Marianne Beck, who threw a kick-a** pink party because she kicked breast cancer's butt!  She celebrated with family and friends and graciously thanked those who helped her through that difficult time.  She hopes telling her story inspires everyone to keep fighting and never give up!  This is one of those special stories that really connects our community in a sentimental yet inspirational way.  We're still cheering for you, Marianne!

Mission-Possible is a story within a story within a story.  Fighter jets, space travel, charity mission, and dueling lightsabers all intertwined.  This story had the makings of a number 1 Tom Cruise hit movie. Brett and Christian are the founders of Imperial Workshop, which makes dueling lightsabers (as you might see in your favorite science fiction space movies).  Well, they sent one to space aboard the Polaris Dawn mission, which raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. And oh yeah, they took a ride with the Ghost Squadron along the way. Thrilling story!
