Up close and personal with rising star Lexi Anand

Musician, writer, singer, performer, straight-A student and philanthropist

Music has always been a part of my world. In preschool, my teachers would tell my parents that they noticed my great love of listening to music! I would pretend to play any guitar I could find! In kindergarten, I would sing lyrics in the car, in my room, and basically everywhere! So, my parents set up voice lessons, and I started to study and perform musical theater songs. But even then, I knew I wanted to write songs. Around this time, I found my mother's childhood guitar. That guitar started my nightly performances for my parents!

At 6, I wrote my first song, "When I Wake Up." A few years later, I began studying piano and was accepted into the youth chorale at Artis-Naples. But songwriting had continued to be on my mind! At 10, I woke up one day and saw my guitar in the corner of the room. I became determined to accompany my own lyrics. I began my search on YouTube for instructional videos, and by the end of the day, I could play simple chords. I have been regularly writing songs since the first grade! I continue to play and perfect many of my earlier favorites, including my first-ever publicly performed "Out of the Game." At 11 years old, I wrote and recorded my first EP called “Neatly Tied.” It was named after my song journal that I would close after writing and neatly tie the string-bound cover together.

While songwriting is an important part of my life, I also continue to participate in other musical activities that broaden my experiences! In the summer of 2015, I was accepted to iTheatrics, a Broadway summer camp with playwright Timothy McDonald in New York City. I was a part of the cast that adapted Junie B. Jones Junior for children's theater! Knowing that I was one of the performers that first presented the musical to the writers before licensing gives me great pride, especially when I see local venues advertising for their performances of it. This experience inspired my song "Count the Minutes!" The song has been featured by iTheatrics on their media pages!

In the summer of 2016, I was invited by Larry Oakes (former guitarist of Foreigner and Bad Company) to sing at The Bitter End in NYC for his singer/songwriter sessions! After that performance, I was invited to perform anytime that I'm in NYC. I have since taken up that offer and have been back performing 30-minute shows of my original material. Later that summer, I was accepted to the Interlochen School for the Arts in Michigan to study creative writing, music composition, and piano. In the fall, I successfully auditioned for the Opera Naples Youth Chorus. I've been a part of their production of the Italian opera Turandot and the French opera La Bohème at Artist-Naples, the Opera Naples Gala, the Sing for Smiles program, and a host of private parties and community events. My work in the Sing for Smiles program led me to perform at local assisted-living facilities. This is one of my favorite opportunities to perform. My opera studies helped me win scholarships in the spring of 2017 and 2018 in Junior voice with The Naples Music Club in which I performed songs such as "I Wonder as I Wander" and "Se Florindo è Fidele." During the summer of 2017, I went back to New York City after being accepted to SOCAPA's music program for developing songwriters. I performed at The Pace Center for The Arts and also learned the art of busking!

In the fall of 2017, I was selected through a national audition to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of Camp Broadway's youth ensemble. At Herald’s Square, we sang and danced to Irving Berlin's "This Is a Great Country" to honor the U.S. military. Our performance was seen on NBC! After that performance, Camp Broadway invited me back to take part in their regular youth ensemble that performs at the most prestigious venues in NYC. I have since performed at The Broadway Theatre in Rocktopia, Carnegie Hall in the New York Pops Birthday Gala, and Radio City in a pre-show leading into The Christmas Spectacular!

Through my vocal coach, I was invited to sing in an ensemble with the legendary Barry Manilow at Hertz Arena. On the day of the performance, we meet with Manilow’s team to practice the music and learn choreography! We were lucky enough to perform with Manilow on “It’s a Miracle,” “Copacabana,” and “I Write the Songs.” It was amazing! It was very inspiring to perform with such a legendary songwriter right before I left for the summer to study songwriting at The Berklee College of Music summer camp. At the camp, I was able to collaborate with young talent, perform, and meet other inspiring songwriters including Wrabel.

These experiences helped to prepare me for my project “Young Possibilities.” I was fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to work with distinguished songwriters, such as Lil’ Eddie Serrano, Kathryn Gallagher, and David Rush and complete a seven-song EP under the guidance of Christina Chirumbolo. I am currently releasing the project with my management company, Three13 Management and my manager Kimberley Patterson out of San Diego. The first single, "Summer Love, '' was released on August 27th and added to a Spotify algorithmic playlist, as well as multiple blogs. The follow-up single, “No Labels,” gained popularity on Spotify and was streamed in several countries. Be on the lookout for the latest single to be released soon.

I had been fortunate enough to be able to take part in a major music festival before the COVID-19 shutdown. I played at Supergirl Pro in Oceanside, CA, on a Radio Disney Stage! I played with a full band, and our performance was broadcasted throughout the festival! I was also fortunate to be able to continue my songwriting studies through 2020 with the songwriting program at NYU Steinhardt, during which I co-wrote “Paradise Falls,” one of my most recent releases. Around this time, I started to teach singing at YAPA Kids, an organization born out of the pandemic aiming to supplement online education.

Locally, I have been in numerous youth choir programs, played solo throughout the community including at The Overlook Bar and Grille, and have been a member of the Creative Group for several years. The Creative Group is a youth-led group refining skills in composition and improvisation with two online programs a year. I initiated and now direct a performance group at Naples High School to bridge the arts with local assisted-living facilities. Naples Performing Arts Society now boasts 50 eager students ready to share their talents!

This past summer, I was selected by the Grammy Museum to participate in Grammy Camp and received mentoring from All Time Low, Andy Grammar, Echosmith, and The War and Treaty. I also was selected to perform at The Wellness Experience (Co-founder singer/songwriter Jewel) and then later spotlighted by Summer McKeen becoming a "Keen On" artist. In November 2021, I performed live as a member of the New York Songwriters’ Circle, hosted since 1991 by Tina Schafer, a multi-platinum singer/songwriter who has written hits for major recording artists, TV, and film.

My interests outside of music include maintaining my straight A’s, being Editor-in-Chief of Naples High School’s literary magazine, being co-founder and co-president of the Naples High chapter of the UN Foundation Initiative’s Girl Up, being sworn in as a Naples Inaugural Youth Council member, and volunteering. I have spent almost 300 hours preparing meals and distributing groceries at Meals of Hope and St. Matthew’s House. My time spent volunteering is my proudest accomplishment.

In addition to finishing the release of my current project and writing new music, I am seeking out internship possibilities for the summer in the music industry while also awaiting spring college admission decisions.

Congratulations on all your accomplishments, and we're excited to see where this road will take you!
