Moorings volleyball stars Elly Beshears and Becca Micelle team up for the win!

Becca

Since the eighth grade, these three girls have been hitting, blocking, serving and digging together on the varsity volleyball team of Community School of Naples; Moorings residents Elly Beshears and Becca Micelle, alongside friend/teammate Cassidy Bloom, are heating up the volleyball court. The girls are now seniors and over the years have contributed to an extremely successful volleyball program at their high school. Each player has improved their abilities year over year through dedicated training, travel volleyball team participation, summer camps and off-season workouts. With their talent and commitment to the game, the CSN volleyball team has earned impressive winning records. CSN won District Championships in class 3A for the last three consecutive years, each year competing in the stiff competition of regional play.

Now, after years of training, recruiting efforts and focus on academic excellence, these girls will begin a new chapter of volleyball at the collegiate level. Elly will attend Emory University in Atlanta, Cassidy will attend the University at Albany in New York, and Becca will attend Clemson University in Clemson, SC. Each girl will bring their talent and love for the game to their respective collegiate volleyball team. There is no doubt we will see and read more of their future successes on and off the court.

Name: Elly Beshears
Age: 18
School:  Community School of Naples
Position: Middle Hitter and Outside Hitter
Recognition: FACA player of the year for volleyball in 2021. Three record records for having the most kills in a season (367), kills in a match (29), and career kills (1286). I have made first-team all-area for the past three years, and I am up for player of the year from Naples Daily News.

How long have you been playing volleyball?
I play volleyball, basketball, and will be playing beach volleyball in the spring. In volleyball, I play middle hitter and outside hitter. I have loved volleyball ever since I began in 6th grade.

Have you traveled anywhere related to this sport/activity?
I have played travel volleyball for five years, but this year I will not be participating because I would like to train privately to prepare for college level of play. My favorite places that I traveled to for tournaments are Philadelphia, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

What have you learned from participating in this sport/activity?
From playing volleyball, I have learned so much more than athletic skills, such as dedication, teamwork, grit, and family. Without the teams that I have grown up with, my life would be very different today. What I like most about volleyball is that the game can always change, the momentum is constantly shifting from one team to the other, especially in a evenly ranked match. I love that it takes more than just one person to bring the team to victory, and I love the feeling I get after a perfectly executed play rewarding me with a huge celebration from my teammates.

What do you plan on doing after graduating?
I plan on attending Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where I will study business and play volleyball. I cannot wait to be an Emory Eagle!
