PK: The Write Way

I authored the three children's sports books I am holding that are in the Library of Congress.

You’ve lived a rich life. Have you preserved it?

In a world where milestones pass and memories fade into the background, one question lingers: Who will tell your story, and how well will it be told?

For PK Daniel, a longtime journalist, author and editor, that question has become a calling that began many years ago.

PK’s own story started on the East Coast. She was born in the nation’s capital and raised in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Silver Spring, Md. Her journalism career has spanned decades, beginning at a weekly community newspaper where she covered youth sports. She is a University of Maryland, College of Journalism graduate. As a student, she worked at the Prince George’s Daily Journal before landing a gig in the sports department of The Washington Post.

But when an opportunity arose to move to Southern California, PK packed her car and drove cross country. When she was hired by Business Wire/SportsWire in downtown Los Angeles in 1987, she hadn’t even heard of Manhattan Beach. But when searching for a place to live, PK stumbled upon it while driving south on Vista del Mar, alongside the Pacific. When the road became Highland Ave., at the northern tip of Manhattan Beach, she knew she had found the town where she would live for the next 10 years.

Her favorite Manhattan Beach residence was located at 8th and Highland with its arched floor-to-ceiling picture window providing a majesctic view of the ocean. She loved the walkability and being able to enjoy the beach, shopping, restaurants and the nighttime social scene. The one thing she observed and loved the most was the community feeling of Manhattan Beach.

She contributed to Sport Magazine before being hired by the Los Angeles Daily News in Woodland Hills, which was a brutal commute from MB. But then she was offered a position at the San Diego Union-Tribune, where she spent 15 years, rising to senior writer and editor. In 2012, PK started helping potential college students with their application essays. And when personal circumstances changed, PK had the opportunity to move back to the South Bay in 2017. A former Daily News colleague called and offered her a position at the Los Angeles Times as senior multiplatform editor.
In 2023, PK decided to launch an editorial LLC, PK: The Write Way.

The boutique writing, storytelling and editing service is dedicated to helping individuals capture their lives with clarity, depth and purpose. Whether it’s a personal memoir, celebration-of-life bio, content creation or a pivotal college application essay, the mission is the same: tell the story the right way and tell it well.

Turning life into narrative

Everyone has a story; few know how to tell it.

Through a highly personalized process, PK works one-on-one with clients to uncover the moments that matter most and transform them into compelling, cohesive narratives. The process goes far beyond simple transcription.

It begins with in-depth interviews designed to draw out voice, tone and emotional truth. From there, PK applies a journalist’s discipline and a storyteller’s instinct, structuring, refining and elevating each piece into something lasting.

The result is more than a document. It’s a publish-ready narrative that reflects both the facts of a life and the meaning behind them.

A Legacy That Lasts

For families, a memoir becomes something far greater than a book. It becomes a keepsake, a way to preserve history, values and identity for generations to come.

“Your story deserves more than a collection of memories,” said PK. “It deserves intention, structure and care.”

That philosophy carries through every project, whether working with individuals documenting a life journey or guiding students through the high-stakes process of college admissions essays.

Beyond GPAs and test scores

For prospective undergraduate and graduate students, PK’s approach is equally transformative.

Grades and test scores tell only part of the story. Essays offer something unique. This is the part of the application process that sets students apart. It’s the opportunity for the applicant to introduce themselves to the admission officers and share what they can bring to the university.

Drawing on decades of newsroom experience, PK helps students:
  • Discover and articulate their authentic voice
  • Highlight qualities that distinguish them from other applicants
  • Align their personal narratives with a school’s core values
The goal isn’t just a polished essay, it’s a story that resonates.

The Write Way

At its core, PK: The Write Way is built on a simple idea: meaningful stories deserve professional storytelling.

From memoirs and celebration-of-life bios to content creation and college essay coaching, PK brings a rare combination of editorial rigor, narrative instinct and personal attention to every project.

It’s not just about writing something down. It’s about capturing one’s indentity, personalizing and memorializing it for generations to come.
