The Yanofskys
A happy Hill Section household
Scott Yanofsky and his daughter Rachel Yanofsky are proud residents of the neighborhood. As a father and daughter, they both have a deep connection to the community and love to engage in various activities and events. Scott has been a resident of the Hill Section for 42 years, while Rachel has lived here for 24 years.
Scott hails from Long Island, New York and Rachel is from Manhattan Beach. A graduate of Mira Costa High School, Rachel is proud to be an entrepreneur. With her drive and determination, she started her own dog-walking business, which is a natural fit for her love of four-legged friends. She still owns that business today and likes showering animals with lots of love. In addition, she is a nutrition counselor and creates delicious plant-based meals.
As for Scott, he got his builder’s license to become a general contractor. He comments, “I have always loved being hands-on which is what led me to start my own business as a contractor.” Scott is also the owner of apartment buildings in Inglewood.
Happy in the Hill Section
Living in the neighborhood is a dream come true. Rachel loves the Hill Section because of how open and spacious it is. It’s also perfect for her dog-walking business. “The views of the ocean are the best,” she smiles. Expect to find her walking to the top of the hill on a cold windy day and watching the waves.
Equally impressed with the Hill Section, Scott loves that the beach is within walking distance from his house. He raves, “You can see all the way to downtown Los Angeles and watch the planes landing and taking off.” With the beautiful ocean on one side and a view of the snowy mountains and the Hollywood sign, he couldn’t ask for anything more. “Not to mention the amazing neighborhood,” he reflects.
Together, Scott and Rachel like watching fireworks light up the sky in the Hill Section. Another pastime they share is gathering together as a family for a meal created by Rachel. Delish!
A Father of Three
Scott enjoys his three children, Brandon (35), Devon (33) and Rachel (24). He says, “They all attended Mira Costa High School and went on to start their careers. Brandon enjoys coding for fun and reading. Rachel and Devon are world travelers and are always on the go.”
Work Hard. Play Harder.
When not working, Rachel loves traveling around the world and experiencing new cultures and places. She says, “My favorite place to travel is Europe. I love how easy it is to get around from country to country. I also enjoy the food.” For a local getaway, you can find her taking a relaxing weekend in Ojai.
When she is at home, she relaxes by doing ceramics and creating beautiful pieces. This past year, she created handmade ornaments and tied them with wool from Portugal and sold them in the South Bay.
As for Scott, he loves traveling around the US and will be getting an Airstream to drive across the country. Both he and Rachel live active lives. Scott likes walking the strand every morning. Rachel enjoys going to Soho Yoga in Hermosa Beach.
They both like the root for their favorite teams, including the Lakers, Kings, and Dodgers.
Committed to the Community
Scott and Rachel are committed to the community. Scott is a member of the Rotary Club in Manhattan Beach and works on countless events in the community. He also built the 9/11 memorial site in downtown Manhattan Beach (see cover and inside photos).
You can also find Scott bringing Noah’s bagels and fruit to the police department every Monday and Thursday bright and early.
We are honored to feature Scott and Rachel in this month’s issue. Be sure to say hello to them when you see them out and about. As they say, “We love our neighbors and would love to get to know those of you we have not met.”
