Pulled Pork, Perfect Tunes & Plenty of Smiles

On June 21, the Golf Village Property Owners’ Association (GVPOA) held its First Annual Summer Sunset Picnic at the central fountain area in Golf Village.

The food was great, the band was great, and even the weather was great (okay, it was a bit hot). The event was coordinated by the GVPOA’s Welcome and Social Committee, with approximately 150 residents in attendance, who gathered on lawn chairs under tents in the grassy area around the fountain.

Under the big white tent, the enticing smell of barbecued pulled pork and brisket from Swig and Swine was served, along with a variety of wonderful salads and desserts brought by residents for sharing. The owner of Swig and Swine, Mr. Anthony Dibernardo, the Original Pitmaster, came from Charleston himself, bringing his smoker trailer, a fully roasted pig that he
pulled apart by hand, and brisket. I’ve tasted a lot of brisket, but I must say that it was one of the most tender and moist pieces of beef I've ever had.

Music filled the air. The highly talented band, Third Shot Drop, played nostalgic hits for hours, keeping the crowd dancing or moving in their chairs. Later in the evening, the sweet sound of the chimes from Mr. Softee’s truck called out to everyone that soft ice cream had arrived. As if that wasn’t enough, there were tables of delicious desserts, also supplied by neighbors, for tasting. The food was plentiful thanks to the overwhelming support from the community.

Many residents brought their children or grandchildren to enjoy the day of music, food, and playing cornhole. It was truly a fantastic event and an excellent opportunity for new residents to meet their neighbors. The GVPOA Board members were in attendance to answer any questions that new residents might have.

The Golf Village Welcome & Social Committee (Peggy Bree, Robin Bickel, Joannes Sallie, Sharon Futch, Gayla Bradley) wants to thank the many volunteers (Sandra Mertes, Doris and Joe Mayer, Peter and Lulu Mack, Linda and Warren Maslar, and John Bree), Golf Village security, and Waccamaw Property Management personnel (Josh Jilian, Ray and Christine Mangold, and Cheryl Lynn Gertner—who coordinated the trolley service for attendees) for making this such a memorable event for all residents.
