Business Spotlight: ClutterFree PHD (Personal Home Detail)

When you consider the draw of vacation, what comes to mind? Tranquil scenery, minimalist decor, peaceful encounters, and the removal of mental and physical clutter? It’s no wonder we long for more of that when we return home. But, what if we can recreate that at home? What would it take to infuse this peace into our day to day living?

Enter in ClutterFree PHD (Personal Home Detail) and its founder & owner, Kelly Watts. Her vision of infusing homes with peace and tranquility is the foundation of her home organizing business method & technique. Your home can be a true abode when every item has its place to rest. The essence of a personalized approach to home organizing includes surveying your space, belongings, and habits and then cultivating maintainable systems that match your home’s aesthetic. Once these bespoke systems are in place, clients experience tremendous freedom to focus on other important matters.

For Kelly, the love of organizing began as a young girl, but many of her global travels shaped her understanding that less is truly more.  When we’re ‘free of clutter,’ we’re free to pursue deeper relationships, explore our talents and gifts, and not be so ‘tied down’ by physical and mental clutter. This was evident throughout each country she visited, and it left an impressionable mark.

After years of teaching, organizing women’s ministry groups, and coordinating a number of events, it was time to launch ClutterFree PHD. However, raising her four boys took precedence, so she built her business in the midst of busy motherhood.  In 2015, the first steps toward her business commenced while living in Houston. She volunteered to organize for friends while she shaped her processes, and knew good things come to those that wait.

In 2018, her husband, Derek, accepted a position in Boerne, and the family of six moved to the hill country.  Word spread quickly over the next few years as she had a soft launch of CFPHD. She realized that forming and training a team would help more families benefit from organizational services. After pouring into building the backbone of her business, developing the unique skillset & efficient methods that set her business apart, and absorbing all the best business practices relevant to the trade, she began recruiting and developing two teams, here and in Houston. ClutterFree PHD grew from one to twelve teammates in a few months.

Kelly enjoys equipping her team and providing opportunities for other women’s talents to thrive. Not only is the client’s satisfaction paramount to her, but also creating a team culture where women collaborate well together.  Each teammate contributes to CFPHD in unique ways, from photography, to functional design, to social media or creating mood boards for interior design projects.  Additionally, each contractual teammate selects the amount of time they’re involved. This flexible & efficient work method has created a unique work environment that produces excellent outcomes for the team and for clients.

What sets ClutterFree PHD apart from other home organizing companies, is their wholistic approach to creating a personalized experience and bespoke space for each client. The journey to a more organized home starts with an in-depth client survey to know organizational preferences, design aesthetic and ‘wish lists.’ From there, Kelly sets up a free initial private zoom call to meet the client, discuss their needs, and see their space. Next steps include an in-person consultation and discussing options for that space. Kelly then takes all those details and proposes a plan to create organizational systems that will transform their space, and infuse peace into that part of the home.  Once a date is decided, her CFPHD team is briefed on the scope of the project, roles are established to implement systems in an efficient timeframe. They love to beat their proposed timetable, and if you see them in action, you’re in awe of what they can accomplish.

There are many unique aspects of Kelly’s business. She offers a range of packages from ‘white glove’ in-person installations, to virtual sessions across the US for those wanting coaching, sourcing, & installation guidance.  Additionally, CFPHD offers affordable interior design packages for any room, as well as functional design (recreating a room with built-ins to create the building blocks of organization).  “We’ve enjoyed designing an assortment of aesthetically pleasing spaces for our clients. Office built-ins, closet systems as well as whole room redesigns are part of our design portfolio in addition to the ever popular bespoke pantry & other organizing projects,” said Kelly.

Perhaps the most endearing part of CFPHD, is that a portion of each project’s proceeds is donated to a non-profit represented by one of their Houston CFPHD teammates, Elaine Hurtado.   Project Love One exists to provide global health programming and community development for the impoverished in eSwatini, Africa. Through developing sustainable solutions, this vulnerable population has hope for meeting their most basic needs. For more information or ways to support, please check out ProjectLoveOne.org  .
