Queen of Cuddles
Life According to Winnie, the Great Dane of Lockhaven

Hello, my name is Winnie and no, I’m not a horse, even though most people seem to think so when they see me on walks. I’m a female Merle Great Dane, and I’ve got a few nicknames too: Winnie Pooh, Way Way, Wins, and Wendy. I’m six years old, weigh about 145 pounds, and yes, I’m a big dog who gives even bigger cuddles.
I might look intimidating with my size and deep bark, but like the saying goes for my breed, I’m a gentle giant. I’m protective and like to keep an eye on my home, but I’ve got a sweet soul underneath it all.
As far as tricks go, I know how to sit and shake, but if I’m being honest, my best skill is sleeping. I’m a pro at lounging. What can I say? Being this big takes energy.
Now, despite my tough looks, I do have fears, and slippery floors are at the top of that list. Smooth tile or stairs? No thank you. I’m not exactly the most agile, and I’ve been known to be a bit of a goofball.
You might have heard me before you’ve seen me. I love to greet neighbors with my loud bark from the front window or backyard. It’s just me letting everyone know I’m on duty. Protecting my yard is serious business.
I was born in Belen, New Mexico, to a very large litter. I met my family when I was just four weeks old. They came to visit me, and I walked right over and cried to be held. It was love at first sniff. A few weeks later, I went home with them and met my new big brother, Cooper, another Great Dane who taught me how to be the majestic dog I am today.
These days, I help take care of my little human sister, Eva. She’s old enough to play fetch with me and chase me around the house. She even gave me the nickname Way Way. I try to stay away from her toys, but sometimes I get curious and… well, accidents happen. Some chewed up toys may or may not have been my fault.
I do like other dogs, but I usually say hi from a distance. I know my size can be a lot to take in. Once, I even got a little too curious and jumped up on a cinder block wall to see what was going on. Turns out, that wall wasn’t ready for 145 pounds of excitement. My parents weren’t thrilled, and now they make sure I don’t try that again. But hey, I like to see what’s going on in the neighborhood.
One of my favorite things is steak night. My family always saves me a bite, but I have to earn it first with my sit and shake routine. Totally worth it.
I’m the only furry member of the family right now, so I soak up all the love. I’ve got a big bed all to myself, more stuffed toys than I can count, and people who adore me. I may be big, but I’m just a spoiled baby at heart. So if you hear a deep bark echoing through Lockhaven Lane, that’s just me, saying hi.
XO Winnie
