Grizzly Good Boy
From bachelor days with his dad to life in a growing family, Grizzly Zanon is a loyal companion, protector, and “Grizzy Good Boy” to everyone around him.
My name is Grizzly Zanon, and I’m your friendly neighborhood Rottweiler. My favorite people also call me Griz, Grizzy, Grizzy Boo, Boo Boo, among other things when I’m getting into the trash.
My story started in Phoenix, Arizona on April 1, 2021, where I was born with the name “Fuscia” because of the pink collar I was given to differentiate me from my brothers and sisters. Thankfully, that name didn’t stick. I mean, talk about embarrassing. Can you imagine?
My dad, Tommy, and Uncle Kyle road-tripped from Albuquerque to pick me up, and before I knew it, I was headed to my new home in Tanoan.
For a couple of years, I lived the bachelor life with my dad. Just two guys without a care in the world, me and him. We would go to Marble, camp in Chacon, wrestle constantly, and go on long walks around Tanoan. My dad is a firefighter for AFR, so some of my favorite days were when he had to go to work and I got to go to my grandma and grandpa’s house. When they say it’s always the parents that try to talk you out of getting a dog that end up loving that dog the most, boy is that true. And man, do I love them too.
Life really couldn’t get better. But then one day, a girl showed up and pretty much just never left. I call her “mom” now. Moms are the best. I never knew what I was missing. Mom cuddles me and yells at dad when he tries to get me in trouble. She’s something called an “account manager.” I don’t know what that is, but she only has to leave a few days a month, so I get to spend all day, every day with her now. Dad gets mad because he says she stole me from him. I think it was a fair trade because I forgot to mention what else mom brought with her when she showed up.
Two fur sisters. Ugh. One is a dog like me named Olive. She’s a mini schnauzer that mom found on the street one day (you can tell). She thinks she runs the roost, so usually it’s just easier to let her think that. My other sister is a Siamese cat named Giavanna. I am obsessed with her in an “I’ll do anything you ever ask of me” way, but I think she takes it in an “I’m calling the cops” way. So I usually just lovingly stare at her from a distance.
Then, you’ll never believe what happened. I got another sister. But this time, it was the kind that looked like a tiny version of mom and dad. Her name is Macey, and she was the smallest
creature I’d ever seen when mom and dad brought her home. All I wanted to do was love on her, but I was also a little nervous because I was told I had to be careful around her because of how big I am. I was her protector. I’d watch her nap and play and make sure to help her clean up any snacks left on the floor.
One day, she stopped making weird shrieking babbling noises and started calling me “Grizzy Good Boy.” It’s my favorite title I’ve ever had. Macey is 2 now, and she loves to ride on my back, give me treats, throw my balls, and laugh uncontrollably when I wrestle with my dog sister.
As you can tell, the girls quickly started to outnumber me and dad. And then… my baby brother arrived. I was ready for the job. I keep a close eye on him, stay nearby, and make sure everything is exactly how it should be.
I think that covers at least the surface of my family, so now more about me. Many people are intimidated by my size. Grandma says I’m the sweetest boy, so I don’t really know why, but I’ll give you an example. If I hear a scary noise at home, I’ll do a big scary bark. Some people think this is to scare away intruders, but it’s really to tell my dog sister that I heard something and she needs to go secure the premises while I stay back with mom and dad.
Some other facts about me: I’m not really an outside dog. It’s pretty hot out there. And if it’s cold or raining, forget it. I hate the water. I’m a pro napper, especially since mom gave me her old pregnancy pillow to use. I will attack anything with a motor. My favorites are hair dryers, vacuums, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and my human sister’s electric car. I can sit, shake with both paws, stay, heel, kiss, and lay down. I love car rides, especially when dad lets me have the window down, and one of my favorite pastimes is watching anything on TV that has dogs, horses, or dragons. All in all, I have the best life ever.
In January of 2026, mom and dad took me to the vet because they said I was extra stinky lately. The doctor said I have something called lymphoma and that I may only have a few more months to make memories with my family. So I’m going to make the most of it. I’ve been getting so many treats lately, and dad says I’ll get a big tomahawk steak soon. Everyone’s been giving me extra cuddles and ear rubs. It’s the best.
If I had to leave behind any advice, it’d be to steal any snack you can, bark any chance you get, and never be too embarrassed when your family talks to you in a baby voice, even in public.
XO,
Grizzy Good Boy, signing out.
