"We focus on the individual dancer," says Joanne. "You're not competing against the person next to you. You're competing against yourself and working to become better than you were yesterday."

"I want this to be a safe place," Joan says. "Kids have enough pressures in their lives. When they come here, they should be able to leave those worries behind and enjoy what they're doing."
The results speak for themselves. The Dance Workshop recently earned multiple top placements at regional competitions, with several routines advancing to national competition. Yet Joan measures success by more than awards.
For her, the greatest reward comes from watching students grow into confident young adults, whether they continue dancing professionally, perform in school productions, or simply carry the lessons they've learned into other areas of life.
