Honoring Danny, Helping Others
The Kerl Family Keeps a Brother’s Memory Alive Through the 30th Annual KSO Charity Golf Tournament
When David and Annette Kerl of Apple Blossom Blvd moved to Summerfield Farms, Lancaster, New York
three years ago, they brought with them a legacy of love, family, and giving back. Together with their daughters, Olivia and Natalie, and their newest addition — a 6-month-old French Bulldog named Dolly.
Each year, the Kerl family hosts the KSO (Kerl Shoot Out) charity golf tournament in memory of Daniel (Danny) Kerl, Jr., Dave’s older brother, who passed away in 1976 at just six years old after a brief but brave fight against childhood cancer.
Now in its 30th year, the tournament has involved more than 300 golfers and volunteers, and over 100 sponsors. Collectively, they’ve raised over $100,000 to support youth-focused causes such as The Center for Handicapped Children, Sister’s Hospital NICU, Roswell Park’s Team Cure, and Alden’s Parks and Recreation programs.
This year’s proceeds will go to the Alden Substance Abuse Coalition, which provides early intervention resources and education through its C.U.R.E. initiative (Communication, Understanding, Resources, and Education).
“Danny’s fight was brief, but his memory lives on,” the family shares. “This event has become a way to celebrate his life while supporting causes that matter to families like ours.”
The 30th Annual KSO will be held on August 2 at Rothlands Golf Course. Neighbors who wish to help can donate items or funds, sponsor the event, or simply show their support.
