Everyday Adventures with the Morettas

From hoops and road trips to HalloWeddings and playful scares—the Morettas make every moment count.

When Dave and Nikki Moretta moved into Summerfield Farms in late 2019, just before the pandemic, they quickly became known for their lively Halloween display and front-lawn party. Music, costumes, and a steady stream of neighbors set the tone. You’ll also spot them around town supporting local youth sports, catching bands at the village bandshell and Veterans Park, or popping into favorite shops and restaurants—community is their default setting.
Work Hard, Play Hard
By day, Dave is the Distribution Manager for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, partnering with Ingram Micro in Williamsville. “I’m the guy making sure all the techy goodness gets where it needs to go—with a side of hustle,” he jokes. His career started at Ingram Micro, and after a leap to HPE, he now travels the country building relationships that outlast the meetings. Best perk? He proposed to Nikki while snowshoeing at the base of Grand Teton National Park—a postcard moment that still makes them smile.
Nikki is a registered dietitian at a large medical practice in Orchard Park. She actually moved away for a time, then returned to Buffalo when she pivoted from a Physician Assistant track to nutrition—D’Youville offered both programs and family was here, so the decision felt right. “I love working closely with providers so patients get a full-circle approach to care,” she says. Fun fact: in the early 2000s she was a Buffalo Destroyers (AFL) cheerleader—one of the Buffalo Bombshells.
Family Fun (and Driveway Hoops)
Nolan (9) and Gwen (7) bring the energy. Nolan’s new love is basketball, and since Dave played in college, the driveway court gets serious use. After installing a hoop last year, the front yard is rarely empty—kids drift in for quick games, friends beep and wave from the main street, and sometimes the girls spin a dance party on the grass. Gwen went from t-ball to cheerleading (with Nikki coaching), and family movie nights and board games are a staple—snacks required.
How They Met
The Morettas’ first date is now a family classic. In 2010, Dave asked Nikki to meet up to talk bartending for a big football draft. She arrived in a baseball hat and sweatpants and quickly realized—it was a date. They ate great food, laughed through the mix-up, caught a movie, and then discovered Nikki’s keys were locked in P.F. Chang’s. A late-night staffer heard their knock and let them in—a tiny saga that still sums up their shared patience and humor.
Trips They’re Still Talking About
The family is working their way across the map. This year included Indiana (courtside to see the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark, three signed jerseys, the top-ranked Children’s Museum, and the Indianapolis Zoo). To spread the love: Arizona brought a comeback Diamondbacks win, visits with Dave’s longtime friends, the Illusion Museum & Mirror Maze at the Arizona Boardwalk, and OdySea Aquarium. Florida meant Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure—they loved both Harry Potter worlds. Pennsylvania included Splash Lagoon, and across the border they hit Great Wolf Lodge, with Canada’s Wonderland on deck before the season ends.
Community & Traditions
Halloween is more than décor—it’s their wedding anniversary. They married in a Michigan castle, a weekend they dubbed HalloWedding. In the past, Dave ran WIFFALO, a wiffleball tournament that grew to 50+ teams and raised funds for Camp Good Days; while it’s on pause for dad duties, he’s exploring a comeback when the timing’s right.
Whether they’re traveling, coaching, cheering, or turning the lawn into a hangout, the Morettas keep fun and connection at the center. As Dave puts it: “If you can laugh through it all—family, work, travel—that’s the good stuff.”
