Is Your Hair Trying to Tell You Something?

The Floofy Studio takes a science-first approach to hair loss, color, and extensions that look naturally yours.

Step inside The Floofy Studio in Youngsville, and you might forget you walked in for a hair appointment. There is retro wallpaper, a soft, Floofy rug, and a not-so-secret rule on the door: girls only. Owner Jamie Istre calls it her clubhouse, and after just a few minutes inside, you understand exactly why.

Jamie’s path to the stylist chair was anything but traditional. She is an Acadiana girl, born and raised, and she originally headed to the University of Louisiana with plans to become a surgeon. She graduated with a biology degree in 2017, took her MCAT, and was a few applications away from medical school when she and her husband, a barber, decided to start a family first. She picked up cosmetology as a way to pay the bills through med school, fully intending to use it as a side trade. A few years later, they welcomed their son Oakley, who is now in heaven, and then their son Wesley. Somewhere in those years of grief, healing, and figuring out who she wanted to be on the other side, Jamie realized she had quietly become one of the most science-forward stylists in Acadiana.

She opened The Floofy Studio in 2024, Lafayette’s first mobile hair salon, lovingly nicknamed the Mini Winnie. Roughly ninety percent of what she does is custom hand-tied hair extensions, but to call her an extension specialist barely scratches the surface. Jamie maps every client’s scalp, muscle structure, density, and color profile before she places a single weft. She matches texture strand by strand. She formulates color the way a chemist writes a prescription. And because hair is often the body’s first symptom of something deeper, she works alongside physicians, OBGYNs, and naturopaths in the area to help women get to the root of postpartum hair loss, autoimmune flare-ups, post-surgical shedding, and more.

It is the kind of expertise you might expect from a research lab, delivered with the warmth of a best friend who happens to have a bowl of color in her hands. Jamie’s favorite phrase, the one she repeats constantly without realizing it, sums up her standards perfectly: "If it is not perfect, I do not like it."
That standard shows up in every shade she mixes, every set of extensions she places, and every quiet moment a client spends in her chair. The studio is intentionally women-only, intentionally private, and intentionally judgment-free. Slippers are welcome. So are babies, tears, and questions you have been afraid to ask another stylist.

The Floofy Studio also travels! Jamie has packed up the Mini Winnie for at-home Galentine’s gatherings, bridal parties, birthdays, and girls' nights, complete with hair tinsel, head spas, blowouts, and the occasional fun, removable extension. She gives back, too, through Maddie’s Footprints, mental health pop-ups at Iron House gym, and is currently seeking licensing to bring on-site services to inpatient cancer care.

If you have been searching for a stylist who will see all of you—your hair, your story, your busy life, and your standards—The Floofy Studio is worth a visit. You may come for the hair, but chances are you’ll leave feeling like part of the club.
