A Day in the Life of Tatum Moss

We sat down with Tatum to learn what a typical day looks like, what she loves most about her job, and why Sugar Mill Pond feels like more than just a place to work.

Tatum Moss was born and raised in Milton and has always had a heart for community. She attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, earning a degree in Hospitality Management before spending 10 years working in Event Planning and Facilities Management at ULL. During that time, she also earned her MBA in Project Management.

Event planning was a natural fit for Tatum. She loved networking businesses together and watching them flourish as a result. Today, she brings that same passion for connection and organization to Sugar Mill Pond.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I usually arrive around 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. I start by reviewing the nightly security reports to see if there is anything residents need to be made aware of. I meet with Gino, our maintenance manager, to review his plans for the day, and I do a morning drive-through of the neighborhood.

Once I am in the office, I go through voicemails, emails, texts, and resident portal requests. Every morning, I also have a conference call with property managers from neighboring communities where we share challenges and ideas. It is helpful to know we are all navigating similar situations and can lean on one another.

After that, I begin returning calls and messages, meeting with vendors, updating and tracking work orders, and coordinating items related to home sales and resales. I also make time to welcome new residents, which is one of my favorite parts of the job.

Throughout the day, I meet with residents. That might mean helping someone log into the portal, setting up auto-draft for dues, answering questions, or working through a concern with a neighbor. I am also paying invoices, depositing checks, managing budgets, and running reports. A lot of people do not realize how much goes into those tasks, but they are all part of keeping the neighborhood running smoothly.

One thing I truly enjoy is seeing generations of families continue to call Sugar Mill Pond home. It is special to welcome residents moving in from out of town or out of state, while also hearing stories from some of the very first homeowners who have been here for years. That sense of continuity and community is what makes this neighborhood so unique.

You are known for being very accessible to residents. Why is that important to you?
The relationships are my favorite part of this job. I always make sure to be available, at least by phone, if I am not here in person. Since this is the only property I manage, I am able to focus solely on Sugar Mill Pond and be more accessible than in the past. I take a lot of pride in that.

You manage far more than most people realize. What are some behind-the-scenes responsibilities residents might not see?
I evaluate common areas for insurance purposes and work closely with city officials. For example, we recently completed a traffic study to explore options for reducing speeding and stop-sign violations. Youngsville is still small enough to stay closely connected to city leadership, which is helpful.

Because the neighborhood is still in development, I work with the developer daily to help shape its growth while preserving the small-town culture people love. Part of that also includes researching and organizing historical documents for Sugar Mill Pond, helping preserve the story of how the neighborhood began and how it has evolved over the years.

I also meet with security and stay involved in long-term planning for the community. There is a lot happening behind the scenes every single day.

What part of your job makes you feel the most proud?
Seeing a project through from beginning to end and knowing I played a part in it is incredibly rewarding. I also love seeing residents utilize the common areas every day. Watching families gather, kids laugh and play, and neighbors connect reminds me why this work matters.

My goal is to make everything look seamless. When things feel easy, it usually means everyone behind the scenes is doing their job well. More than anything, I want residents to be able to create beautiful memories close to home. If I can help create an environment where that happens naturally, then I know I am doing my job right.

What is one thing residents could do to make your job easier?
Communicate with each other. So many issues could be resolved if neighbors simply talked things through and helped one another out. Being neighborly goes a long way.

When you are not working, how do you like to unwind?
I love spending time with my family. My husband, AJ, and I have two boys, ages four and two, and we are always outside, whether at a park or at my parents’ fishing pond. We also enjoy camping together.

If you could say one thing to Sugar Mill Pond residents, what would it be?
Thank you for welcoming me into the community and for your patience during times of change. While there have been growing pains, we have come a long way in just six months. So many neighbors have offered help, and some have even offered their golf carts when I needed them. The people who live here have made my job easier in so many ways.
