Neighbors Rally for History: A Golf Cart with Heart
If there’s one thing that defines Sugar Mill Pond, it’s the way neighbors come together to make a difference. That spirit was on full display this fall when the Youngsville Historical Preservation Society partnered with Southside Golf Carts Sales and Services, owned by residents Matt and Stephanie Blackwell, to raise funds for the Youngsville History Museum.
The idea? Build a one-of-a-kind golf cart, raffle it off, and donate every dollar to preserving Youngsville’s rich past. What began as a single act of generosity quickly grew into a true neighborhood movement.
Southside Golf Carts designed and built a stunning EZ-GO 1940s Chrysler “Woody”-inspired golf cart, complete with classic charm and modern flair. But they didn’t do it alone. In true Sugar Mill Pond fashion, local neighbors and businesses jumped in to help. NuNu’s, Rowe & Co Play Studio, Acadiana Garage Doors, Hays Homes Construction, Huya Craft Coffee, Cajun Custom Cups, Lulu David Real Estate Co, Sugar Mill Pond Athletic Club, Lalande Title, Pop Pop’s Workshop, Stine, Zim’s Tire & Auto Repair, Doug Ashy, and Sterling Automotive Group all joined forces to make the fundraiser possible.
As the “Woody” traveled throughout Acadiana, it drew crowds and smiles everywhere it went—from coffee shop stops to local events—spreading excitement for the cause and pride in the community it represented.
The project became more than a fundraiser; it was a celebration of what makes Sugar Mill Pond special—neighbors who show up, pitch in, and care deeply about the place they call home.
