HELP …. WE’RE TRAPPED AND WE CAN’T GET OUT!

These thoughts came to me as I exited the back way off Mondavi Dr.  onto 126th to reach the streets necessary to get over to Krogers off Olio Rd. and 116th street.

As I came upon a whole line of big Dump Trucks carting away dirt and leaving a trail of dusk, mud and other things on our roads as they drove away. In this time period, my attention was aware, as I closed all my “fresh air car windows,” and sat in an impatient idle that left passenger cars stuck waiting to get out of our community (Safe to say, a car is no match for a big old dump truck to cut in on). This was at 7:30a.m. to be exact.

My mind raced to the future of the 3:00 and 4:30p.m. time-period when the whole world opens up to get kids on buses home, workers, and visitors out of our area. Oh yes, and let’s not forget Cyntheanne Park where avid Pickle-ball players gather at all different times.

School House 7, who has served us so well with coffee, sandwiches, events, and a place to gather to read and meet friends, now sits engulfed with construction of buildings and parking lots sold to  the slated Meijer’s new store. It also has slated in some Boutique Stores. Meijer’s found a perfect site to build as it will service several other large housing areas around us, and will add to the traffic coming into our area offering convenience to the grocery list of sales nearby.

To my knowledge, we do not have the whole list of what will be built in this area, as well as, the reported new children’s Day Care Building going in across from this big stretch of this land as well.  If this land had been sold to a Senior Citizens Day Care company, well … it would make more sense (Just being honest here). Plus, we need to add to this two schools that sit on either side of Cyntheanne  Road. And let’s not even talk about the new blocked off Atlanta Road exit that are in the process of constructing another huge housing community. Roads are closed in part now, but for how long I don’t know.

The memories of when I first drove over to this area, where I fell in love with the quiet roads that felt like being out in the county where my family would drive after Sunday dinners just to get away from the city life of hustle and bustle.

I can still remember when I first turned down the long drive that had this beautiful waterfall leading me to to the 3-way stop where I sat for a few seconds to stare at what we all call the Château.  I felt like it was my destiny to buy a lot and start the second part of my life after the death of my husband. It felt like I was out in the country and land was still surrounding the community I would live in.  Land is precious and sad to say, we sometimes take it for granted until it disappears.

Don’t get it wrong, I love living in Britton Falls and Fishers. It held all the goodness of living in a beautiful landscape, and most of all, the wonderful people who  came here to find the peace of living in a quiet neighborhood away from the overgrown, over sold areas that the Indianapolis zip code in my Geist area where I had lived for so many years.

But today, sitting in my car waiting to get out,  I wondered if things were going to change the quiet of our world as it once was?  Or … was I just turning into that grumpy person who doesn’t like to wait on big traffic periods where you are forced to sit in place and wait on the moments of your life where you once thought was easy to get in and out.

I must also write, as my age number go up, it should be nice to get a 3-wheeler with a big basket, and peddle my way up to a nearby grocery store that could include a bit of shopping, to have a cup of coffee at Schoolhouse 7.

I only hope they will put in a bike path to get us from here to there safely. Life goes on and sometimes things get a bit overdone.  I’m glad to say I left out feelings of so many roundabouts that are now called in jest, “Merry Go Rounds” for old people to figure out who has the courage to master.  I hope to see all of you at the grand opening of Meijer’s because it is a good store.  Not complaining here. Just remembering.
