Mahjong Madness

Four local women—Kayla Casper, Stacy Chronister, Shannon Hillier, and Jennifer Thomas—have found a new way to relax and connect through the game of Mahjong. What began as a casual conversation turned into a shared hobby after they attended an all-day class called “Mahjong with Jen” in Jenks this past May.
The event was more than a lesson; it was a full day of learning and fun. By the end of the class, the group left feeling confident in their ability to play. Since then, they have continued to build their skills using the “Real Mah Jongg” app. The app is designed to replicate the actual game and uses the 2025 player card. It also enforces the rules automatically, which helps reinforce correct gameplay.
Practicing online has made their in-person games more enjoyable and accurate. They gather when schedules allow to play as a group, using the game as a way to unwind and connect. The strategic nature of Mahjong appeals to their analytical sides, making the game both mentally engaging and fun.
While the game includes an element of luck, the women have embraced the unpredictability. Even when a winning hand isn’t possible, they focus on learning and enjoying the process. The game has also extended beyond their group. They have taught their children and husbands how to play, turning Mahjong into a family activity.
What started as a one-time class has become a regular part of their lives. The game offers both personal time and shared experience, creating a balance of fun and connection. For these women, Mahjong is more than a game—it’s a new way to spend time together and bring their families closer.
