It's TUKA Time!!!

Greeting Spring Lake! We are the Fogel Family.  Dad and Mom, Jon and Victoria, our two kids, Jack and Veronica, and of course our beloved dog, Tuka.
Our family moved to Spring Lake in December of 2013 to be closer to family and to raise our children within a small community that provided access to nature, Lake Michigan, and a great public school system.
Tuka (Lady Elizabeth) Fogel, 5 years old, female, and Border Aussie. Border Aussies are work dogs. They have high energy, are very intelligent, like to stay busy, and like order and predictability.
Our former dog, Conor, lived until she was 18 years old. She bore witness to our courtship, marriage, life as newlyweds in California, becoming parents in Florida, and finally establishing roots back in Michigan. When she passed away, it was gut-wrenching. After a year, it became evident that we were missing that layer of unconditional love that a dog adds to a home.

It was important for us to find a pup that would love to hike, run, and enjoy playing with our kids so we decided on a Border Aussie. Tuka was born in Clare, Michigan on an Amish Farm. When Jon went to see the litter, Tuka, ran straight to Jon as he got out of the car. He instantly knew she was a Fogel.
Jon named Tuka after one of his favorite University of Michigan football players from his tenure at the university.

Tuka loves to play soccer, especially in the snow while we are shoveling. If we shovel without her, she stares out the front door window with an incredibly sad face. She is a frisbee dog and can contort her body in midair to retrieve.

Tuka’s favorite toys are toys that require interaction from people such as soccer balls, frisbee, and tennis balls. She has been known to toss herself her own toys when her family isn’t up for playing.

She brings immense joy with her zest for soccer in the snow even in negative degrees when her face is coated in so much snow that you can barely see her eyes and through family games of ‘don’t let the balloon hit the ground’ as we pass a balloon around and are in full awe as she jumps literally over 100 times to keep the balloon in the air.

Tuka loves to run and frolic along our local trails. She spends time with Georgia, Margo, and Milo in our neighborhood. They all have “escaped” their yards to visit each other by showing up at their back slider doors. She also loves running the trails with Olive and Remy. Her best friend in Spring Lake is Jake. Jake and Tuka love to run through the woods together and wrestle in open fields.

We often take Tuka to Ebby’s Pet Bakery & Boutique and Coast Guard Park. Chase Bank always gives her a treat, so she really enjoys those ride-alongs.

One of Tuka's favorite adventures is backpacking at Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area because it consists of being with her family, hiking through the woods, running up and down dunes, and playing frisbee on the beach!
