We all have our stories to tell, and the story of the Laughlin Tanner Group began when Peter G. Laughlin decided to move to Sarasota after a circuitous journey. Initially, Peter immigrated from Trinidad in the Caribean to Miami where he lived with his growing family for 12 years. Then, after a couple of years in Toronto, Canada, the family circled back to Florida. This time, they chose Sarasota. He and his family had discovered Sarasota during vacations at the Colony Resort on Longboat Key (where the new St. Regis is being built).

 

Family and friends say that Real Estate is in Peter’s blood. It really is. Peter began selling real estate when he was 17 years old. His grandparents owned a cocoa and coffee plantation in Trinidad, which Peter developed into residential homes. He was also involved in the development and marketing of single-family and resort properties. In Miami, he ran an international consulting business, handling major companies and investors who needed representation in South America, the Caribbean, and the USA. Peter brought his international background to Sarasota where, since 1990, he has consistently helped sellers and buyers in making choices to positively impact their lifestyles and wealth.

 

 

Over the last 33 years, Peter has become a real estate legend in Sarasota. He started out as an agent with Mount Vernon Realty, then ran his own brokerage, Laughlin's Luxury Lifestyles, and is now with Premier Sotheby's International Realty. In the 2000's, he and his wife, Patricia, developed over 25 custom luxury homes on Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico ranging in price from $1,875,000 to over $6,000,000. These homes are now worth $4,000,000 to $15,000,000. "I navigated every detail of building a waterfront home -- permitting, seawalls, materials, managing subs, you name it!" says Peter, "I gained great insight into the luxury home market which contributes to the depth of knowledge I bring to the table."

 

To better serve clients, Peter created the Peter G. Laughlin Group in 2014. His daughter, Natalie Laughlin Tanner, and her husband, Andrew Tanner, became partners in 2022 and the team rebranded to the Laughlin Tanner Group. Andrew and Natalie met in New York City. Both worked in the fashion industry -- Natalie as a model and Andrew in luxury hand made men’s clothing. Natalie and Andrew live in McClellan Park and are active members of the Neighborhood Association. Other team members include: Nancy Endara, realtor in the luxury market for over 24 years; Susan Garrabrant, marketing director; and Angela Barnitz, customer care specialist.

The Laughlins and Tanners are community oriented, generously gifting time, funds and expertise to various community programs. Peter and Patricia were instrumental in founding some of Sarasota's time-honored events like the Sarasota Film Festival and the Florida Wine Fest. They are also annual supporters of the Sarasota Ballet. You can mingle with them at Ballet performances or entertaining friends at the Sarasota Yacht Club.

 

The younger Laughlin Tanners' community interests include youth, neighborhood and environment. Andrew started the chess club at his son's school and coached the Surge Rugby Club for many years. Natalie spearheaded the Southside Elementary edible food garden. Now, as their kids have grown and head off to college, the couple stays connected as president and vice president of the McClellan Park neighborhood association, balancing work and family with meeting neighbors at social gatherings. Actively advocating for Sarasota natural resources, Andrew continues his role as board member of the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program. As a group, the Laughlin Tanner Group supports the All-Star Children's Foundation.
