Celebrating Over 60 Years of Making a Difference: The Stuart Society

Save the Date for the Smartly Dressed Charity Event on November 2!

The Stuart Society, led by Snell Isle resident Becky Malowany who currently serves as President, is a prominent organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. As they celebrate their 61st anniversary this year, they continue to uphold their mission of promoting the welfare of the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), St. Petersburg, stimulating public interest in museum activities, and increasing membership.

“I’ve been involved with the Stuart Society since 2018,” explains Becky. “I’ve been on the Board for three years. I currently serve as President of the organization and sit on the MFA’s Board of Trustees.”

Becky's background in the arts aligns perfectly with her role in supporting the MFA. Having been a supporter of the MFA for many years, Becky finds it deeply fulfilling to contribute directly to the museum's mission through her involvement with The Stuart Society.

“The MFA is a renowned world-class museum with a collection spanning almost 5,000 years of civilization. Moreover, the MFA houses the most comprehensive art collection of its kind on Florida’s west coast. To be directly involved with furthering the MFA’s mission in the capacity as The Stuart Society’s President is a dream come true. I love every minute of it,” she smiles.

The Stuart Society has been instrumental in raising funds for various initiatives, including art acquisitions, major exhibitions, educational programs, building renovations and additions, operations, and publications. Named after the museum's founder, Margaret Acheson Stuart (1896-1980), the society has played a vital role in supporting the growth and development of the MFA for six decades. They have raised “substantial funds for art acquisitions, major exhibitions, educational programs for all ages, building renovations and additions, operations, and publications.”
“The Margaret Acheson Stuart Society has been the premier sponsor of numerous exhibitions and a lead sponsor for the construction of the Hazel Hough Wing, which opened to the public in March 2008,” says Becky. “The Society initiated the annual Art in Bloom floral exhibition at the Museum more than 25 years ago and has hosted its Smartly Dressed fashion show for over 40 years. The organization's importance to the Museum and the St. Petersburg community is recognized by a gallery named in its honor.”

Tickets and sponsorships for the event will be available for purchase starting in September, with various levels of participation to accommodate different preferences and budgets. The dress code for the occasion is Luncheon Chic, encouraging attendees to “dress to impress.”

To purchase tickets or learn more about the event, individuals can visit The Stuart Society's website at www.StuartSociety.org and navigate to the Smartly Dressed tab in the menu. Becky comments, “100% of all net proceeds raised will directly benefit the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg.” This will allow the MFA to continue its vital work of preserving and sharing art with the community.

Thank you, Becky and The Stuart Society, for making a lasting impact in the community by supporting the Museum of Fine Arts. Through their dedication and commitment, they ensure that the arts thrive, exhibitions flourish, and educational opportunities are available to all.
