Repair, Don’t Replace – Modern Advances in Joint Care

Dr. P and his wife Cristina

One of the most amazing things about the human body is its natural ability to heal itself. We’ve all seen it: a cut closes, a bruise fades, a bone knits back together. Modern regenerative therapies build on that same principle—helping the body repair damage in joints, tendons, and ligaments so people can stay active and pain-free.

Take platelet-rich plasma (PRP), for example. Our blood contains platelets loaded with growth factors—tiny messengers that act like “fertilizer” for the healing process. When we carefully concentrate and deliver those platelets to an injured area, the body often responds by repairing tissue more effectively.

Here’s the key, though: not all PRP is the same. The results depend heavily on how it’s prepared and administered. I’ve been performing PRP treatments since 2008, and in that time I’ve seen how experience, proper dosing, and correct technique make a world of difference in outcomes.

The conversation has also turned in recent years toward stem cells. While these cells can directly turn into bone or cartilage in the body, they usually act like “boss cells,” signaling other cells to start the repair process. Unfortunately, this excitement has led to some confusion. In the United States, there are no true stem cell injections legally available. We cannot grow stem cells in a lab or use donated stem cells, despite what some clinics claim in their advertising. However, we can use bone marrow which has stem cells and other cells that help the stem cells. Be cautious when you hear of clinics and doctors saying they offer “stem cell” treatments.

At Victory in Motion—Home of Knee Repair, Not Knee Replacement® — we take a careful, evidence-based approach. Since 2017, I’ve been using advanced bone marrow cell therapies, which include a mix of stem cells and other supportive cells that naturally work together to encourage healing. We never advertise “stem cell injections,” because that’s simply not what’s being done in the U.S.

Our focus is on giving patients the most effective, ethical, and safe treatments available today. The goal? Helping our neighbors stay active—whether that’s hiking with friends, playing pickleball, walking the dog, or enjoying time with the grandkids.

If you’re curious about whether natural, cell based, biologic therapy could help you, we’d love to talk. Victory in Motion is proud to bring world-class regenerative medicine care right here in Skaneateles!
