Flemings DC Ranch Hosts Judgment in Scottsdale Wine Tasting Dinner

“Judgement in Scottsdale” Celebrates 10 Years of Flavorful Rivalry

Wine and food lovers gathered once again at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in DC Ranch for the 10th annual Judgement in Scottsdale—a one-of-a-kind culinary event where French and American wines and cuisine go head-to-head in a friendly, flavor-packed competition.

Inspired by the legendary 1976 “Judgement of Paris,” where California wines famously triumphed over their French counterparts in a blind tasting, this Scottsdale version offered a playful and interactive spin. Each of the five courses paired a French wine with an American wine—alongside two culinary interpretations of the same featured ingredient, one in classic French style and one with an American twist. Guests sipped, tasted, and voted to determine the winners in each round.

This year’s menu was a true showcase of creativity. From an opening course of Lobster Thermidor vs. Lobster Roll with paired Chardonnays, to a main course duel between Braised Short Rib and Beef Bourguignon served alongside Syrah, every pairing was thoughtfully constructed to bring out the nuances in each glass and bite.

Additional courses included dishes like Salmon Poke vs. Salmon Rillettes with Pinot Noir, and Grilled Chicken with Hunter Sauce vs. Chicken Fricassee paired with elegant red blends. The event wrapped up with a sweet finish—Apple Pie vs. Apple Brie Galette.   Chefs Steven Lee Dion Lewis satisfied every palate with their flavorful offerings!

More than just a tasting, “Judgement in Scottsdale” is a celebration of culture, craftsmanship, and community. With its lively atmosphere, blind tastings, and guest participation, it’s no wonder this event has become a summer staple in DC Ranch—and a highlight of the calendar for wine lovers and foodies.

Whether you favor French flair or American boldness, everyone walked away with a richer appreciation for both.
