Meet Aspen

"Queen of Cuddles, Buttons & Pool Parties"

Montana and Aspen

My name is Aspen, and I’m a yellow Labrador with a hint of Goldendoodle. I live with my parents, Jeanne and Alex Leckie, along with my sister Montana, who is a chocolate Labrador. I’m 4 years old and consider myself a glamorous dog!

My family found me in Ontario, California, because they went to UCLA. When they were looking for a new dog, they had their old dog, Thor, on their minds. As they searched, they found me—and I was born the day before Thor passed away.  As for my sister Montana, she was born eight weeks after me, on the day after Thor’s birthday.

My name is very special to my family. My mom and dad used to take long walks through aspen groves, so they decided to name me Aspen, after the little heart-shaped flowers that grow at the tops of aspen trees.

My family says I’m a very special dog because I participate in lots of enrichment activities. They call me a super swimmer because I love swimming and can jump really far into the pool! I also give surprise human hugs when people least expect it.

Every week, my sister and I have video calls with Bunny, the talking dog. We “talk” to each other using buttons that help us communicate with our humans. Bunny has over 1,000 buttons to talk with her people—and us!

Montana and I have even helped with creating AI voices used to call wolves. And—not to brag—but I passed the test to be on a search and rescue dog team! My sister passed her test too, and she’s now a certified K-9.

My parents say I’m a very funny dog. My mom always dresses me up for Halloween, and I don’t mind at all. I love getting glam for everyday life—it’s like I’m the queen of the house and everyone else are my servants! My parents spoil me and give me whatever I want. I have tons of toys, gadgets, and gizmos I use all the time—especially my pool toys and talking buttons.

Even though I act like royalty, my family loves me so much. They’ve learned to love dogs with all their hearts, and they even call themselves “dog servants.” I love my family deeply, and I’m so grateful to call Jeanne and Alex my mom and dad!
