Meet Bogey!
The Golden Boy with a Heart of Pure Sunshine
If you’ve seen a cheerful golden retriever sitting politely on the walking paths of Shearwater - tail wagging, eyes bright, hoping to charm every passerby into saying hello - you’ve likely met Bogey, the one-year-old golden who’s quickly winning the hearts of neighbors and pups alike.
Bogey’s family moved to Shearwater at the beginning of September, instantly drawn in by the mature, “grown-up” landscaping, the beautiful walking paths, and the resort-style amenities that make the community feel like home from day one. For Bogey, it was love at first grassy run.
Bogey officially joined the family last January, just after Christmas, when he was eight weeks old. He came from Salty Goldens - originally based in Jacksonville and now in Jupiter, Florida - and fun fact: he was part of the “Christmas Vacation” litter. His breeder nickname? Clark. And just like Clark Griswold, he has a knack for bringing joy, laughter, and a bit of golden chaos wherever he goes.
Naming him was easy. With Thomas working in golf - managing an elite junior golf tour - and mom having played college golf on a Division II women’s team, it only felt right that their new four-legged teammate should have a golf-themed name. And so, Bogey it was. (Thankfully, he’s much cuter than the golf term suggests!)
What makes Bogey stand out most is his pure, unconditional friendliness. He believes everyone is a friend - human or canine - and proudly sits to watch people stroll by, tail wagging, silently convincing them to come over for a proper hello. He doesn’t discriminate; he loves everyone.
Among his special talents? A very enthusiastic “shake”… as long as there’s a treat on the line. At home, the family is working on teaching him a skill that fits right into their golf-centric lifestyle - fetching golf balls from their putting mat. As for treats, Bogey has simple, quirky favorites: peanut butter, ice cubes, and bananas. If you have any of those on hand, expect instant golden loyalty.
One of his family’s favorite memories was the day Bogey experienced his first backyard. After months of apartment life, they brought him to their new home right after closing. When he stepped into the yard, he sniffed around carefully… and then it happened. Zoomies. Pure, unfiltered joy. In that moment, it was clear—he knew it was his yard, and he was finally free to run.
In the neighborhood, Bogey’s top hangout is the dog park. He loves meeting new pups, and while every day brings new furry friends, he always has a special soft spot for fellow golden retrievers. Outside of Shearwater, he loves Petsmart and enjoys beach days - just not when the Florida sun is too warm.
If Bogey could choose his dream adventure, it would be a long road trip with his family - lots of car rides, windows down, and frequent stops at every dog park along the way so he can make new friends and run to his heart’s content.
This golden boy has only been in Shearwater a short time, but he’s already spreading sunshine everywhere he goes.
