Meet The Hannay Herd
A Little Wild. A Lot Blessed. Always Spirit-Led.
If you’ve seen a few golf carts cruising around town with a touch of military precision and a whole lot of family flair, chances are the Hannay family is behind the wheel. Zack and Ashley moved to the area about 18 months ago, and in that short time, they’ve become an active, inspiring, and joy-filled part of the community.
The Hannays describe themselves as “a little wild, a lot blessed, Spirit-led, raising little hearts to love fiercely and serve faithfully.” And once you meet them-or simply hear their music echoing down the street-you’ll understand exactly what that means.
A Family Rooted in Faith, Purpose & Community
After years of deployments, cross-country moves, and high-stakes missions, Zack and Ashley felt called to build a life centered on faith, family, and deeper community connection. They originally came from far and wide - Zack from Knoxville, TN (he’ll proudly shout “Go Vols!”), and Ashley from Ohio before making their way down from Atlanta - but St. Augustine is the first place they say truly feels like “forever home.”
Their house is filled with laughter, adventure, and the beautiful chaos of raising four little ones:
Valor (6), Gideon (5), Finlay (2), and baby Thunder Azariah (6 months). Whether they’re cruising in a decked-out golf cart, chasing toddlers through the yard, or harmonizing to “I’m a Gummy Bear" or "Who Let the Dogs Out” on repeat, there’s never a dull moment in the Hannay home.

Meet Zack & Ashley
Zack
Zack is a retired U.S. Navy Special Warfare veteran whose 12 years of service included aviation reconnaissance and supporting elite SOCOM units. Those years shaped his resourcefulness, precision, and deep sense of responsibility - qualities he now pours into his work, his family, and his mission-centered approach to life. He later studied Electrical Engineering at American Military University and became a certified journeyman electrician, combining technical skill with innovative thinking.
Ashley
Ashley is the heartbeat of the home. She works for CSX Railroad, helping safely move America’s goods and commerce from coast to coast. Off the clock, she balances career, motherhood, ministry, and marriage with grace, strength, and a sense of humor that keeps the whole herd grounded. With dual degrees in International Business and Chinese Culture & Language from Miami University (yes, the Ohio one - no palm trees, lots of snow), she brings intellect and intention into every part of her life.
A Love Story Built on Faith & Flight Paths
Zack and Ashley met in Virginia Beach - he was serving in Navy Special Operations, she was climbing the corporate ladder at Norfolk Southern. Their “airport dates” became legendary: meeting after long work trips, squeezing in a weekend of memories, then hopping on planes again. Ashley knew Zack was the one after their first date; Zack knew it when he realized he couldn’t beat her at a single Dave & Busters game. (“Ashley is freakishly good at everything. It’s annoying,” he jokes.)
Green Cove Golf Carts: A Mission With Wheels
Faith, integrity, and service are at the center of the Hannay family - and their business reflects it.
Green Cove Golf Carts was born after Zack discovered many dealerships were selling carts equipped with untested, unsafe batteries. He knew families deserved better. So he set out to raise the industry standard.
Today, Green Cove Golf Carts exclusively sells carts powered by the only UL-certified fire-safe lithium battery on the market - the gold standard recognized by firefighters and safety inspectors nationwide.
For Zack, safety isn’t an upgrade; it’s the foundation. For families, it means peace of mind. And for the community, it means top-tier carts at prices designed for everyday living. “Our mission is simple,” Zack says.“Protect what matters. Enjoy the ride.”The Hannays also use their business as a way to give back - supporting local families, schools, events, and outreach efforts.
A Herd on the Move
Adventure is part of the Hannay DNA. Last year, they packed their Rivian R1S—three kids, countless snacks, and a sense of wonder—and hit the road for a 60-day cross-country adventure. From the red rocks of Moab to the geysers of Yellowstone to the fish-throwing spectacle of Pike Place Market, they made core memories all the way to the Pacific Northwest.
When they’re home, you’ll find them fishing, exploring local trails, serving with their church, attending community events, or hosting family movie nights in the driveway from one of their custom carts.
And through missionary work in Costa Rica, they’ve extended their impact far beyond their street—living their belief that strong communities are built one relationship at a time.
Life in the Neighborhood
When asked about their favorite tradition, the answer is immediate - the Christmas golf cart cruising!
Bundled under blankets, sipping hot cocoa, lights flashing, “Jingle Bell Rock” blaring - they roll through the neighborhood waving like they’re leading their own holiday parade. And honestly? They kind of are.
If you don’t have a golf cart yet, they’ll tell you you’re missing out on the best family tradition in the area. (Luckily, they know just the place to get one!)
The Heart of the Herd
The Hannays live by a simple motto: Love people well. Give more than you take. Serve wherever God sends you. And they live it boldly - whether across the street or across the globe.
If you see the Hannay Herd around town, be sure to wave. Chances are you’ll get a smile, a kid or two on a lap, a dog in the back, and a golf cart ready for its next mission.
And trust us - it's always a fun one!
