The Watkins Family
A Story of Faith, Family, and Community
Nestled in the heart of Shadow Valley, the Watkins family has built a home filled with love, laughter, and a deep sense of community. Richard and Jordan are proud parents to two energetic daughters, Kate (6) and Kyle (4), and their beloved Weimaraner, Walt. Since moving to the neighborhood in 2022, they have embraced everything their community has to offer, from tennis to golf, to community events, and unforgettable poolside summers.
A Journey to Shadow Valley
Originally from Texas, both Jordan and Richard found their way to Northwest Arkansas through different paths. Jordan moved to the area as a child, while Richard arrived in 2004. Their love story began at the University of Arkansas, where they were introduced by mutual friends. Their first date—a distinguished lecture series featuring Rudy Giuliani, followed by a casual meal at Slim Chickens—set the foundation for a strong partnership. After marrying in 2013, their journey took them through Fayetteville, Bentonville, Little Flock, and even Mooresville, North Carolina, before settling in Shadow Valley.
A Passion for Education and Business
Education and business play significant roles in the Watkins' lives. Both Richard and Jordan attended the University of Arkansas, where Richard earned a degree in Finance, and Jordan pursued both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. Today, they channel their expertise into their business, Ivybrook Academy, a half-day preschool in Rogers. Jordan serves as the principal, supporting families, students, and teachers, while Richard manages finances, marketing, and technology. In addition to Ivybrook, Richard also leads sales and business development for Santa Cruz Nutritionals.
Encouraging Creativity and Activity in Their Children
Kate and Kyle thrive in a home that nurtures curiosity and creativity. Kate enjoys piano, dance, arts, crafts, and reading, while Kyle shares her love for dance and is eager to start biking lessons. Both take tennis in Shadow Valley, and Kate recently completed the Operation 36 golf program. Evenings are filled with family games or lively kitchen dance parties. Jordan, a talented cook and former college cheerleader, inspires their passion for dance, while Richard, a former musician, shares his love for piano with Kate. Kate’s compassion shines through her love for art and animals, while Kyle keeps the family laughing with her infectious energy.
The Best Boy: Walt the Weimaraner
The Watkins family wouldn’t be complete without Walt, their blue Weimaraner adopted from the Arkansas Weimaraner Rescue. At five years old, Walt is a gentle and loving presence in their home. He takes turns sleeping beside Kate and Kyle, enjoys warming up by the fireplace, and serves as a devoted protector of his family. One of the family’s dreams is for Walt to become a certified therapy dog.
Celebrating Faith and Adventure
For the Watkins family, faith is at the center of their home. As dedicated members of Fellowship Bible Church in Rogers, they ensure that their holiday traditions focus on the story of Jesus. Travel also plays a significant role in their lives. Before having children, Richard and Jordan spent five years traveling the world and try to escape to new adventures any opportunity they can get. For their 10th wedding anniversary, they embarked on a trip to Italy, Sicily, Malta, Spain, and France—an experience they deeply cherish getting to experience with their two daughters. Locally, they enjoy spending time at KJ Memorial Park and Coler Trail, where Kate and Kyle can be seen riding their scooters, often with Walt in tow. When it comes to dining, their favorite spots include Blu Fish House, Big Orange, and MJ’s Pizzeria. In the summer, they are almost always found outside or near a pool.
Community Engagement and Giving Back
Tennis is a family passion that has strengthened their connections within the neighborhood. After enrolling their daughters in junior tennis programs, Jordan quickly befriended other tennis moms and joined a ladies' team, eventually convincing Richard to join mixed doubles. Their love for the sport has only grown since. Beyond sports, the Watkins family is dedicated to giving back. Richard has been actively involved with the Children’s Safety Center, previously serving on its Board of Directors and contributing to its vital mission of supporting the local community.
The Joy of Living in Shadow Valley
For the Watkins family, Shadow Valley is more than just a neighborhood- it’s a truly special community. Watching the sunset over the golf course is a cherished tradition that reminds them of why they love calling Shadow Valley home. Through their commitment to faith, family and community, the Watkins family embodies the spirit of togetherness, making Shadow Valley an even more special place to live.
