Introducing Jayne Steinbach with Flipside Counseling

Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family

I grew up in California and moved to Washington State in seventh grade, where I later raised my family. My husband, John, and I have been married for 28 years and have two incredible sons who are both pursuing careers in business.

My husband, John, owns his own seafood business, which has given him the flexibility to live here and fully enjoy the Seville community.
Our oldest son, Tyler, played football at Central
Washington University and is graduating in June with a business degree in supply chain management. Our youngest son, Trevor, plays football at the University of Montana and is also pursuing a business degree.

Once the boys left for college, my husband and I decided to move to Arizona to enjoy the sunshine and a more outdoor-centered quality of life, a.k.a. getting out of the rain. We love spending time golfing and enjoying time with our amazing friends!

We also have a French bulldog named Spike, who we think is the best in the world. We feel grateful to now work from home while enjoying the lifestyle we’ve always dreamed of.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now…
Every life experience has led me to where I am today. I’ve worn many different professional hats, from real estate, and working in a dental office to selling roofing materials to contractors, and a lot of life lessons along the way. Each role taught me something valuable about people and communication.

My path into counseling began at Bellevue College in the drug and alcohol counseling program. After working in that field for a few years, I realized addiction was only part of the story and that many people were struggling with deeper emotional and mental health challenges.

That realization led me to continue my education at Eastern Washington University, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication. I later completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Seattle University.

Looking back, every step prepared me for this work. I truly believe a higher power has guided me to a place where I have the privilege of supporting people during some of the most meaningful and challenging moments of their lives.

What is your business, how/why did you start your business?
Moving to Arizona is what ultimately led me to start my private practice. Because my practice is entirely telehealth, I’ve been able to continue working with clients in Washington while also supporting new clients in Arizona. This flexibility allows me to maintain the meaningful relationships I’ve built with my Washington clients while expanding my work and helping people in both states. My goal has always been to create a career that allows for both meaningful work and the freedom to enjoy life outside of it.

What is unique about your business?
What sets my practice apart is the person behind it. While I’m trained in evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, ERP, Play Therapy, and EMDR, the most important part of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. My own journey and the work I’ve done personally allow me to meet people with genuine compassion, authenticity, and deep respect for their experiences. I consider it an honor to be trusted with someone’s story, and my goal is to create a space where people feel truly seen, understood, and supported as they move toward healing and growth.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to Seville neighbors?
The best advice I can give is this: asking for help is your greatest superpower. Somewhere along the way, many of us are taught we have to do everything on our own, but that isn’t true. Isolation can be devastating; Sukarno called it “the worst cruelty that can be inflicted on a human being is isolation," and we know from experts like Esther Perel that healing doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens in connection. Reach out, lean on others, and let connection guide your growth and healing.

What else we should know about you, your family, or your business?
Professionally, my goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for anyone needing support with mental health or simply a place to process life’s challenges. If that’s something you’re looking for, you can visit my website to schedule a time that works best for you.
