The Lewis Family’s Mission of Compassion
Through faith, family, and a shared calling to serve, Dr. DeQuincy and Sarah Lewis are turning personal purpose into community impact—bringing hope to cancer patients across the Triad.
On a quiet street in Sedgefield, where neighbors gather for cookouts and children ride bikes beneath tall trees, the Lewis family has found both a home and a calling. Since relocating to the neighborhood in 2021, Dr. DeQuincy Lewis and Sarah Lewis have woven their professional passions and personal values into the fabric of the community, creating a life centered on service, faith, and connection.
“Purchasing our home here was one of the best decisions we’ve made,” Sarah says. “It’s just 20 minutes from my husband’s work at Cone Health Cancer Center in Asheboro, and his patients are incredibly important to him. He is always willing to be there when he’s needed.”
Together with their three children—Devingston (25), Morgan (13), and Portland (4)—the Lewises have built a household that reflects both ambition and heart. Their teacup toy poodle, Nori, rounds out the family, often found cuddling close or trailing behind the youngest, Portland, affectionately known by neighbors as the “neighborhood baby.”
A Family Grounded in Service
Dr. Lewis, a board-certified hematologist and oncologist with nearly two decades at Cone Health, has dedicated his career to treating patients facing cancer and blood disorders. Originally from Hillsborough, North Carolina, his journey has taken him through rigorous medical training across the country before returning to serve communities close to home.
Sarah, a native of Asheboro, brings a complementary path rooted in human services, education, and advocacy. With experience spanning Alaska, Texas, and North Carolina, she has worked as a youth case manager, educator, and child protective services investigator. Today, she channels that background into her role as Founder and CEO of Beauty In Giving Foundation, Inc.
“Our mission is to bring hope and healing to families affected by cancer,” Sarah says. “We want to make sure no family faces that journey alone.”
Their work is not just professional—it’s deeply personal. Together, they speak in churches and community spaces, sponsor families in need, and actively support local schools and organizations. “We’re committed to not just motivating others, but rolling up our sleeves and putting in the work,” Sarah says.
A Love Story Built on Faith
Their partnership began in 2020 with a blind date at Magnolia Blue Restaurant in High Point, arranged through a mutual connection. What started as a simple introduction quickly grew into something deeper.
“I knew she had my heart when we spent hours completing the Five Love Languages assessment together,” Dr. Lewis says. “It wasn’t just the exercise—it was the way we leaned in, listened, and truly connected.”
For Sarah, it was his character that stood out from the beginning. “I knew DeQuincy was true love by the way he treated others,” she says. “Even while we were on a date, if he received a call from the hospital, he would pause and give his full attention to the need at hand. He is a man of integrity, true to his word in every sense.”
She adds, “I admire that he is a praying man. His faith is strong, and it guides how he lives, how he leads, and how he loves.”
Married in 2023, the couple continues to build a life anchored in shared values, communication, and purpose.
Growing Roots in Sedgefield
Life in Sedgefield has offered the family both serenity and connection. They enjoy evening walks, neighborhood gatherings, and watching deer gather in their backyard. “We love going to the neighbors’ cookouts and sharing beautiful memories with our families,” Sarah says.
Their children each reflect the family’s drive and individuality. Morgan is an accomplished student and competitive dancer with aspirations of attending Juilliard and pursuing medicine. Portland, curious and fearless, already shows an interest in her father’s work. “She enjoys examining CT scan images and can identify organs such as the lungs, heart, and brain,” Sarah says.
Family time often includes travel—trips to Topsail Island, Key West, and beyond—as well as cheering on their alma maters, North Carolina A&T and Johnson C. Smith University. Closer to home, Dr. Lewis enjoys driving his classic British sports cars through the neighborhood, often with his daughters along for the ride.
Turning Passion Into Impact
That shared commitment to service has taken shape in a new way through the launch of Beauty In Giving Foundation. The nonprofit focuses on supporting families affected by cancer through education, early detection awareness, and financial and emotional assistance.
Their inaugural fundraising event, “A Night of Elegance. A Lifetime of Impact,” reflects both the urgency and the hope behind their mission. Proceeds will directly benefit cancer patients receiving care at Cone Health Cancer Center locations in Asheboro and Greensboro.
“We believe in highlighting the beauty of giving,” Sarah says. “It’s about communities coming together to lift, educate, and empower one another.”
For the Lewises, the work is both a calling and a responsibility—one shaped by faith and lived out daily.
“It’s our God-given assignment to assist in the fight to help families dealing with cancer,” Sarah says.
And at the heart of it all is the place they call home.
“We love the sense of community here,” she says. “Sedgefield is peaceful, connected, and full of people who truly care—and that means everything to us.”
