Around the World and Back to Sedgefield
With decades of global travel behind them, Tom and Ginny Maurer brought their passion for adventure to Greensboro. As a Stroll Sedgefield sponsor, Ginny now helps others explore the world—while staying rooted in the neighborhood she loves.

Tom and Ginny Maurer moved to Sedgefield in 2020, drawn by the neighborhood’s charm and sense of community. After years of relocating due to Tom’s military career, they were ready to settle in a place that felt like home. “We were looking for a true community,” Ginny says. “Sedgefield’s unique homes, natural beauty, and welcoming neighbors made it the perfect fit.”
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Tom and Ginny first met in a high school math class. Years later, their paths crossed again, and they eventually built a life filled with travel, career growth, and family adventures. They’ve called Greensboro home since 2011, when Tom began working for Honda Aircraft Company following his Navy service.
Tom earned his degree in Physics from Washington and Lee University and later completed a master’s in Electrical Engineering at the University of Virginia. Today, he owns his own consulting business and works as an experimental test pilot—a field that’s taken him around the globe. Outside of work, Tom enjoys photography and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, especially when the two hobbies intersect during travel.
Ginny holds a degree in Marketing and Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She began her career in finance and management but eventually followed her passion for travel, launching her own Cruise Planners franchise in 2015. She’s since grown the business into a successful, five-person team specializing in luxury travel and custom itineraries. “I realized there was a gap in the travel industry for personalized service,” Ginny says. “I wanted to change that.”
With more than 20 moves behind them, the Maurers have built a life centered around flexibility and exploration. Their work schedules are busy—both running their own businesses—but they always make time for travel and cultural discovery. “We spend a lot of time working,” Ginny says, “but we make time to travel and experience new locations and cultures.”
They’re currently enjoying a cruise around Ireland and have more exciting trips on the horizon. “It’s such a gift to be able to see the world together,” Ginny says.
Tom and Ginny have two adult children. Their son Max and his wife Caro live nearby in Greensboro, while their daughter Mallory is based in Nashville. At home, the Maurers share their space with two sister cats adopted from a local shelter in late 2019. “They were a great source of joy during 2020,” Ginny says, reflecting on the many months spent at home during the pandemic.
Ginny stays involved in the community through multiple business networking groups and as a member of the Sedgefield Woman’s Club. She's also begun hosting a luxury travel group that meets at GIA, one of the couple’s favorite local restaurants. “Not only have the people at GIA been great to work with, but the food and service there are always amazing,” Ginny says.
Whether enjoying Greensboro’s standout restaurants or gathering with neighbors, the Maurers value the connections they’ve made in Sedgefield. “We not only enjoy the architectural diversity of Sedgefield,” Ginny says, “but also the interesting people. It seems like everyone has a unique and interesting story to tell.”
