From High School Sweethearts to Salisbury Life: The Newlins at Home
For Samson and Haleigh Newlin, life in Salisbury feels like a natural extension of a story that started long ago—one rooted in family, shared history, and a whole lot of time spent together. “We started dating in high school… and have been together ever since—almost 13 years,” Haleigh said. What began at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School has grown into a life filled with family traditions, neighborhood connections, and now, their son Everett at the center of it all.
Two-year-old Everett has quickly become the heartbeat of their home. Whether he’s pointing out every “big truck” on a walk down Radstock Road or excitedly spotting an “airplane,” he brings energy and humor to even the simplest moments. “It’s less about one big event,” they said, “and more about the constant stream of small, real-life moments that keep us laughing.” These days, much of their time is spent outdoors—walking the neighborhood, playing in the yard, or heading to the park to let Everett explore.
The Newlins moved to Salisbury in 2023 and quickly found themselves surrounded by something special: friends and neighbors in the same stage of life. “We were so excited when they moved in,” Haleigh said of nearby friends, the Konvickas. With young children close in age, spontaneous get-togethers and shared evenings have become part of the rhythm of their week. “It’s been so special watching those friendships grow,” they added, noting how meaningful it is to raise a family alongside people who feel like an extension of their own.
That sense of closeness extends to their own families as well. Haleigh’s parents live just minutes away, something the Newlins describe as “the biggest blessing.” Everett already asks for “Lovie” and “Pops” by name—“Vivi Pops”—and visits are a regular and cherished part of life. “Our traditions aren’t overly formal,” they shared. “They’re rooted in consistency, quality time, and just being together.”
Some of their favorite moments happen around the table. “If lasagna is being made, the entire family is getting together,” they said, referring to a recipe that’s been passed down over time. It’s less about the meal itself and more about what it represents—connection, laughter, and time intentionally spent together.
Outside of home, the Salisbury Country Club has become a backdrop for many of their memories. “Our rehearsal dinner was here… my baby shower was here,” Haleigh said. These days, it’s just as likely to be a casual stop for a drink, a round of golf, or a pickleball match. “It’s convenient—it’s a good meeting place,” they said, especially when meeting up with friends and family.
Travel is another shared love, even if it looks a little different these days. From quick weekends in Sandbridge to memorable trips abroad, the Newlins value experiences together. “We took a two-week trip to Italy and Switzerland with Everett when he was 14 months old,” they said. “It pushed us out of our comfort zone in the best way.” No matter the destination, the goal is the same: making memories together.
Professionally, Samson and Haleigh also share a unique connection. While Samson runs SoGood Plumbing, Heating & Air, Haleigh works as an account director for a marketing agency, often supporting the business behind the scenes. “We don’t just spend time together—we work together,” she said. “It keeps us close.”
At home, their 10-year-old Labradoodle, Millie, rounds out the family—often spotted lounging in the sun or happily keeping watch over Everett.
For the Newlins, life in Salisbury is exactly what they hoped it would be: close to family, surrounded by friends, and filled with the kind of everyday moments that turn into lasting memories.
