Finding Light in the Shadows

Award-winning filmmaker Jessica Lee Wrabel brings stories of brokenness, resilience, and faith to the screen.

In an era where content is constant but true connection is increasingly rare, filmmaker Jessica Lee Wrabel is telling stories that reach into the heart of human struggle with the possibility of redemption. Through her production company, Wrabel is developing work centered on emotional resilience, personal brokenness, and faith, grounded in the belief that storytelling can help people feel seen, understood, and ultimately less alone.

Her documentary, In the Shadow of Grace (recently won a Telly Award and will be streaming on Angel Studios’ platform), follows three individuals as they share their journeys through inner battles and substance dependency. Each story is raw, unfiltered, and deeply human, tracing the weight of toil, the breaking points, and the moments where hope begins to re-emerge. At its core, the film is about faith: how each person found God and discovered a path forward through grace. The result is a documentary that creates space for honesty, healing, and reflection, leaving audiences with a sense of light after darkness.

Alongside the documentary, Wrabel is developing her narrative feature, a music-driven film currently in pre-production. With a $2 million budget, the story draws from her own personal experiences, translating similar themes of psychological struggle, addiction, and belief into a fictional story designed to immerse audiences on a deeper emotional level. Blending narrative and music, this motion picture aims to create not just a viewing experience, but a feeling; one that reflects the internal battles many face but rarely voice.

As part of its development, the film is set to partner with Kappa Studios for post-production (the same company behind the globally recognized series The Chosen) signaling a strong creative and technical foundation as the movie moves toward principal photography.

What connects both projects is a clear and intentional purpose: to reach people in the midst of their struggles. Wrabel’s work is not about perfection or preaching, it’s about honesty. It’s about sitting in the darkness long enough to recognize the need for light, and showing that transformation is possible. Faith is presented not as abstract, but as something lived, tested, and ultimately discovered through hardship.

As In the Shadow of Grace continues to gain traction and the feature advances under her production company, Jessica Lee Wrabel is building more than a body of work, she is creating stories designed to stir change, spark conversation, and meet audiences where they are most vulnerable.

Jessica is currently seeking strategic partners and investors to bring the upcoming movie to life. The project is fiscally sponsored by From the Heart Productions, making contributions tax-deductible, and Wrabel welcomes the opportunity to share early materials with those interested in supporting a film rooted in purpose, impact, and emotional truth.
