A Day in Capri: The Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills Annual Tea
Our hostess Jackie Resnick Shutz
On Sunday, September 28th, the Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills hosted its cherished Annual Tea at the magnificent home of Jackie Resnick Shutz and Mark Shulz. Their residence, with its sweeping views and elegant design, served as the perfect setting for this year’s theme: “A Day in Capri.”
From the moment guests arrived, they were transported to the charm of Italy’s famed island. Aperol Spritz, Limoncello, and Prosecco flowed freely, setting a celebratory tone. Tables adorned in hues of lemon yellow and Mediterranean blue reflected Capri’s signature palette, while Italian-inspired tea sandwiches and confections offered a feast as pleasing to the eye as to the palate. The weather, idyllic and clear, revealed the Shutzes’ stunning vista, further enhancing the illusion of a Mediterranean escape.
A Culinary Highlight
The afternoon’s most memorable feature was the presence of Nick Amalfitano, grandson of Anthony “Jr.” Amalfitano, founder of the iconic Ramona’s Bakery and Amalfitano Bakery in San Pedro. Guests delighted in watching Nick prepare freshly piped cannoli on site, a fitting tribute to the event’s Italian theme. The involvement of a family so deeply rooted in the local Italian-American culinary tradition lent authenticity and charm to the day.
Opportunity Basket Excitement
Anticipation mounted as the program turned to the ever-popular Opportunity Basket Drawing. Thanks to the dedication of Karen Willis, Melissa McNabb, and Shannon Thomas, along with the generosity of many donors, the array of baskets was truly exceptional. Curated selections included fine wines, jewelry, gourmet kitchen goods, spa indulgences, and even treats for beloved pets. Lively applause filled the air as winners were announced.
The success of the day was further supported by Judith Haenel and Michael Sullivan, who provided golf cart transportation for guests, ensuring comfortable arrivals and departures.
A Collective Effort
Events of this caliber are possible only through the commitment and generosity of many. From those who assisted with set-up and clean-up, to the members who contributed food, beverages, and the extraordinary baskets, the Women’s Community Club extends heartfelt thanks. Special acknowledgment goes to Stacy Markulis and Lisa Waldo, who chaired the event with elegance and dedication.
Looking Ahead
The Annual Tea is one of the signature events of the Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills’ calendar, which also includes the annual Children’s Holiday Party, Neighborhood Gatherings, and the Annual Egg Hunt. These gatherings not only celebrate tradition but also foster meaningful connections and enduring friendships among members.
This year’s “Day in Capri” was a resounding success, blending Italian charm with the warmth of community. It reflected not only the talent and creativity of its organizers but also the spirit of fellowship that defines Rolling Hills.
