The Schofields

Greetings, neighbors!
My name is Derek Schofield and my wife Kate and I bought our home in Rolling Hills just over two years ago. We don’t have kids, unless you count the fur and feather variety. Our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Sophie (4) and Grace (2), round out our household. They are sweet and very adventurous— If you saw someone doing impromptu, shoeless trail runs chasing an exuberant (and very fast) puppy last year, that was us! We also have a small flock of hens that give the most colorful eggs.
We have been in the South Bay for the better part of 20 years, minus a two-year stint in Miami Beach. We love it here and we can’t wait to meet more of our neighbors this summer. I feel very fortunate to have met Kate through mutual friends in Hermosa Beach. We are excited to be celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary November. We were married at La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes Estates. It was our first introduction to the hill and we were hooked instantly. Rolling Hills is an oasis for us, with its tranquility, peace and quiet, no streetlights, and open space. We also appreciate the safety of living in a gated city.
Despite the challenges of social distancing requirements that kicked off right when we moved in, our neighbors were amazing and still went out of their way to make us feel very welcome in the neighborhood, surprising us with the most amazing home-grown tomatoes and fresh baked goods.
I am originally from New Jersey and Kate hails from Michigan. After earning my Bachelor of Science degree from Johnson & Wales University and MBA from Pepperdine University, I went into the banking industry. Currently, I work as an Executive Director at JP Morgan. I enjoy building relationships by assisting middle market companies with working capital financing, acquisition financing, treasury services, M&A advisory, and capital markets needs.
As for Kate, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Florida International University. She enjoys her career as a Senior Data Analyst for Clique Brands, a fashion/beauty digital media and consumer products company. With her analytical mind and passion for research and problem solving, it’s a natural fit.
When I'm not working, I enjoy golf, watching Formula 1 races in person or on TV, driving activities with my automotive clubs, and working on my vintage cars. My wife is always gardening and collects English roses. Together, we both love discovering new cuisines, reading, and traveling. We enjoy traveling to Europe, and so far our favorite places have been London, the Amalfi Coast of Italy, and Monaco. I also have a private pilot’s license, which we hope to put to more frequent use.
Around town, we like visiting local nurseries to pick out plants and trees for our property, driving through canyons in Malibu and Angeles Crest Highway, and walking around the Botanic Garden. You can also find us at local restaurants, including The Red Onion, Creme de la Crepe, and Aristo Cafe.
To relax and unwind, we enjoy a day by the pool with the pups, family, and friends (and wine)!
If you see us out and about, be sure to say hello. We are looking forward to meeting more friendly folks in the neighborhood.
