Puppy Love
In a neighborhood built on connection, two four-legged friends remind us that the best relationships often begin with the simplest introductions.
Every morning, Winston eagerly watches the sidewalk from the front yard, waiting for one familiar face to come around the corner.
He's waiting for Bunny.
Their friendship began the same way so many relationships in The Enclave begin, with neighbors meeting while spending time outside. As Bunny and her owner, Tammy, made their daily walks through the neighborhood, they crossed paths with Robbie, who was helping her daughter settle into her home. One afternoon, Bunny was invited into the yard to meet Winston, and from that moment on, the two became inseparable.
Now their playdates have become part of the neighborhood rhythm.
The pair spends their time chasing one another through the yard, burning off puppy energy with joyful zoomies before the Tennessee heat settles in for the day. Their schedules have shifted to early mornings, but their excitement for seeing each other hasn't changed. Winston eagerly watches for Bunny's arrival, and Bunny is just as happy to sprint through the grass beside her best friend.
Their story is especially meaningful because, much like the people who live here, these two friends couldn't have come from more different beginnings.
Winston, an English Golden Retriever, came from a long line of carefully bred dogs after fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming part of Kathleen Wallace's family. While Kathleen serves in a demanding career away from Chattanooga, Winston enjoys life in The Enclave with her mother, Robbie, who cares for him during his puppy years. After a career as an Exceptional Education teacher with Hamilton County Schools, Robbie has embraced this season of slower mornings, neighborhood walks, and watching Winston discover the world one adventure at a time.
Bunny's journey tells a different story. Adopted from the Cleveland Animal Shelter in the spring of 2025, she arrived with heartworms and required months of treatment before she was healthy enough to simply enjoy being a dog. Today, she spends her days doing exactly that, running freely across the yard with her favorite playmate and reminding everyone how resilient rescue dogs can be.
It's a beautiful picture of what makes this community so special.
Every family arrives here with a different story. Some have lived in Chattanooga for generations. Others have relocated from across the country or around the world. Careers, experiences, and backgrounds may all look different, yet neighbors continue to find common ground through conversations at the mailbox, evening walks, front porch gatherings, and spontaneous moments in the front yard.
The dogs seem to understand this instinctively.
One comes from a carefully documented pedigree. The other found her forever family through a shelter. Their stories are entirely different, but neither seems to notice. They simply know they've found a friend.
One recent afternoon offered another reminder of why moments like these matter.
As Winston relaxed outside, two young girls walking through the neighborhood stopped to ask if they could pet him. Before long, they were laughing together, surrounded by a gentle ninety-pound Golden Retriever who happily soaked up every bit of attention. It was a simple interaction, but one that perfectly captured the spirit of The Enclave—a place where neighbors still slow down, children feel welcome, and friendships often begin with a simple hello.
Sometimes the strongest sense of community isn't found at an organized event or neighborhood gathering. Sometimes it's found in two dogs racing across a lawn, patiently waiting for one another each morning, and quietly reminding the rest of us that friendship has never cared about where we came from. It only asks that we show up with an open heart.
