A Smile Worth Celebrating
Meet Henry Bucken and the Chattanooga tradition bringing families together for Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
There is something especially joyful about one year olds. They are discovering the world one smile, one giggle, and one new adventure at a time. For Enclave resident Henry Bucken, that joy seems to come naturally.
Henry recently celebrated his first birthday, and if you ask his family to describe him, one thing quickly becomes clear. Henry is one happy little guy. Smiley, bubbly, and full of personality, he is thriving and enjoying life right here in our Enclave community.
Henry's first year began with a little more uncertainty as he spent time in the NICU after he was born. Today, Henry is thriving, growing, and filling his family's days with plenty of smiles. Henry has Down syndrome, and this October offers a special opportunity to celebrate him while bringing awareness to the Down syndrome community.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a time dedicated to celebrating individuals with Down syndrome while encouraging greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusion within our communities.
For the Bucken family, one meaningful way they celebrate and honor Henry is by participating in the annual Buddy Walk. Each October, families, friends, and community members come together to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and show their support for the Down syndrome community.
This year's Buddy Walk, hosted by the Down Syndrome Community of Greater Chattanooga in collaboration with the National Down Syndrome Society, will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 2:00 p.m. at First Horizon Pavilion.
The Buddy Walk is more than a walk. It is an opportunity to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome, support their families, and help build a community rooted in understanding and acceptance.
For Henry's family, it is also a chance to celebrate the smiley, bubbly little boy who brings so much happiness to those around him.
As Henry begins his second year, there is so much ahead to celebrate. His story is one of a little boy who is growing, thriving, deeply loved, and surrounded by a community cheering him on.
This October, Stroll Riverview is proud to celebrate Henry and individuals with Down syndrome throughout our community. We invite our Riverview and Enclave neighbors to join the Bucken family at the Buddy Walk, spread awareness, and help foster a community where every individual is welcomed, supported, and celebrated.
