Health is Wealth

The Hughletts are not only great neighbors - they’re on a mission to help others improve their health and even get off of their prescriptions! Meet this wonderful Rivercut family!

Eldest son Brandon and his wife Jess.

Say hello to the Hughletts!
My name’s Steve, and my wife and love of my life Theresa has been a blessing from God as a wife to me and a mother to our two boys: Brandon and Skyelar. They were only 8 and 12 years old when we moved to Rivercut.

What brought you to Rivercut?
We’ve lived in Rivercut since December 2005. Theresa was born and raised in Springfield, and I was born and raised in Independence, MO. Theresa and I both have several family members who live in the Springfield area, so after getting my second degree from Kansas City and residency in South Carolina, we decided to move back to raise our kids around family.

Where did you go to school?
I graduated pre-med from SMSU (now called MSU) in 1984 and worked one year on my Masters Degree. Then I met Theresa, switched professions to Doctor of Pharmacy, and went 6 more years in Kansas City school of pharmacy.  We then moved to Charleston, SC to complete my pediatric residency before moving back to Springfield in 1992.

How did you two meet?
Theresa and I were introduced to each other through a mutual friend while I was working on my Masters degree at SMSU. We will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary this coming June!

Tell us about your professions!
After completing my residency, I started working in pediatrics at Cox South. I was the very first Doctor of Pharmacy at Cox to be located on the floors. Now, every floor has their own pharmacists. I worked in pediatrics, the pediatric intensive care unit, and the neonatal intensive care unit for the next 15 years. I then transitioned to being the supervisor of the second and third shifts and remained in that role until I put in for early retirement in October of 2021 after working there for 29 years.

Tell us about your boys!
Both boys are in sales. Besides their sales jobs, we’ve also gone together and started an LLC to flip houses, starting in the Kansas City area.

Brandon is 32 and has a wife named Jess. He has a passion for real estate, and that was one of the driving forces behind our LLC. He lives with his wife in Lee's Summit, MO

Skyelar is 28 years old and lives in Scottsdale, AZ. He’s passionate about hiking and the outdoors and uses social media to show how simple and beneficial it can be to get outside. His goal is to help people be healthier, spend more time on the trail, and approach life with a more grounded mindset.

Are there any pets in your family?
We had an American Eskimo dog named Harley who lived to be 19 years old, but died in 2020. We also had a Shorky named Oscar who lived to be 14 years old, but died in 2023. We do not have any pets at this time due to traveling all the time to see our boys and to attend and speak at multiple conferences. Maybe in the future!

What do you do for holidays?
As of this writing, we actually just got back from Scottsdale, AZ where we spent a wonderful time with both of our boys and their significant others. Brandon and Jess flew in from Kansas City and we flew in from Springfield. Skyelar and his girlfriend had back-to-back activities planned for all of us the whole time, ranging from swimming at their pool, hiking in the Saguaro desert, playing Pictionary, doing fun clue finding, going on a scavenger hunt that took us all around Scottsdale trying to find out which elf stole the Naughty and Nice list, and ending with a Cirque de Soleil show the night before coming back home.

Tell us about your new business!
After 30 years of trying to manage patient's medications, my wife and I are now starting our own business helping people get off medications. We help them to reverse diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc, that I was always taught were irreversible. We are doing this through nutrition.

After knowing the medical side of how to treat the "symptoms" of disease, we now are teaching how to stop the root cause of disease. We do this by educating on the ultimate importance of putting nutrients into our bodies and keeping the toxins out. By educating how nutrients affect our bodies, we are proving that nutrition is the KEY to preventing, stopping, and reversing these "irreversible" disease conditions. As a result, we are decreasing or eliminating medications people are taking for their symptomatic treatment.

To help as many people as possible, I wrote a book called "Your Plate Is Your Fate". We then started our own podcast called "Nutrition Prescription: Wellness vs Medications", and just launched our 163 episode. I also travel and give talks on this subject, and we’ve developed several courses to help others get off medications and reverse their conditions that we were always taught were "irreversible".

What are some of your favorite places around Springfield?
We like the simple restaurants like The Roost, The Rock, Casa Bella, Ceser's Old Mexico, and Bricktown Brewery. We also enjoy going to the Farmer's Park on East Republic Road for home grown nutrients and Sequiota Park for relaxing walks. Our favorite hangout spots are usually at friends' homes.

How do you get involved in Rivercut?
We would like to hold Q&A events in the club house for anyone in Rivercut who would like to learn how to lose fat and get off their medications and reverse their "irreversible" diseases. If you’d like to learn about that, contact me at steve.hughlett@gmail.com.

What's your favorite part of living in the neighborhood?
We love driving past the waterfall as we leave and enter the neighborhood, hanging out at the pool, walking all over the neighborhood and getting together with friends in the neighborhood.
