Meet Amos and Karen Riley!

We are Amos and Karen Riley. In April of 2022, we moved into the Rivercut community on Northern Ridge Road. We chose to purchase our home in Rivercut after looking at properties in Millwood and Fremont Hills. We loved the Rivercut location, homes, and positive reviews we found while researching Springfield’s best areas to live.

We are originally from S.E. Kansas where we raised three sons and two daughters. Our kids have blessed us with twelve grandchildren and lucky number thirteen on the way! We have two dogs: Beanie, our Dachshund, and Samson, our Boxer. Both are one year old. Two weeks after we got Beanie, the breeder called and said they had a partially deaf Boxer pup they could not sell and asked if we could provide him with a good home. We of course said yes, but there are days we jokingly wonder what we were thinking getting two puppies at the same time!

Karen worked at Cessna Aircraft as Procurement Manager for 15 years. She resigned in 2012 to be able to enjoy the grandkids and spend time spoiling them. Amos worked for Tessenderlo Kerley Inc. managing chemical plants producing liquid fertilizer for 25 years. In 2014, Amos’ job moved us to California to manage and oversee the construction of a new facility. In 2021, we decided that it was time to move back to the Midwest and be closer to family. Amos decided to leave Tessenderlo Kerley and accepted an offer as production manager in Springfield at EnerSys (formerly NorthStar Battery). Our oldest daughter and her husband live in Fremont Hills with two of our grandchildren which was one of the deciding factors for locations to look at for a new career.

Karen has always loved decorating the home for the holidays, especially Christmas. We just had four trees up in the home and one still in the box! While in California, we had purchased a smaller square footage home which limited Karen’s decorating. Now that we are back in a larger home, she is genuinely enjoying this passion.

We both love riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. Karen rides a 2018 Anniversary Edition Heritage Classic and Amos rides a Road Glide. While in California, we were active in the local HOG Chapter (Harley Owners Group) with Amos as the Director and Karen as the Chapter Secretary. This coming August, we’ll be riding our bikes to Sturgis to attend the Sturgis Bike Rally which we’re really looking forward to! South Dakota is a beautiful country and seeing it while riding a motorcycle is hard to beat.

We participate in multiple charity motorcycle rides during the year. While living in California, our HOG Chapter’s main charity event that we organized each year was a fundraiser for Valley Children’s Hospital which provides specialty and primary pediatric care. Since we were living in California, we decided to take advantage of all the activities available in that state. We lived 30 minutes from the Giant Sequoia Trees which must be seen in person to genuinely appreciate! We decided to purchase season passes to Disneyland and that decision provided us with wonderful memories and lasting bonds with our friends. After we moved to Springfield, we still flew to California to take advantage of our passes until they expired. We of course purchased season passes to Silver Dollar City to feed our theme park hunger and have not been disappointed. The Christmas store in the park is always a stop for Karen.

We have both always been Chiefs fans, and when we lived in Kansas, Karen’s brother had season passes that allowed us to attend games. We love our home, the community, and are glad we chose Rivercut as our home!
