Home Was Always the Destination

For Ben and Brooke Torian, love began with an LSU victory, a strategic detour, and a whole lot of puppy playdates.

It was September 7, 2019, and a group of friends had gathered at a home in Youngsville to watch the number one ranked LSU take on the number nine ranked Texas Longhorns. The Tigers won, and Ben may have celebrated just a touch too enthusiastically. When it came time to head home, someone mentioned that Brooke lived nearby, and Ben, ever resourceful, asked for a ride. She obliged.

What happened next is the kind of story worth telling at every dinner party. Once they reached the neighborhood, Ben, let's call it strategically, refused to give directions to his house until Brooke agreed to one more drink at a local restaurant. She obliged. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Ben hails from Toledo Bend, Texas, and Brooke is a Ville Platte native, but today they are very much at home in River Ranch, where they are building a beautiful life together. And that life just got a little sweeter. In March, the two made it official in the most fitting way possible: an intimate backyard wedding surrounded by their daughters, their dogs, and the love they have spent years building. Ben is a real estate closing attorney at Torian Law, and Brooke is a real estate agent at Avenue Real Estate. Together, they are a natural team, each bringing something essential to the partnership. "I am admittedly OCD, and I tend to carry the stress of work with me everywhere I go," Ben shares with a laugh. "Brooke is very laid back, nonchalant, and chill. She is the Yin to my Yang."

Their home is full and vibrant, with two daughters at the heart of it all. Amelie, 15, is homeschooled and has a passion for health, psychology, cooking, and fitness. Little sister Stella, 5, has faced her share of challenges, having undergone two open-heart surgeries and carrying a diagnosis of level one autism. But with the support of outstanding doctors, therapists, and a family that loves her fiercely, she is thriving, attending Ascension, and doing exactly what any five-year-old should be doing: living life fully and joyfully.

The Torian household also happens to be home to two very memorable dogs. Maximus Centurion Torian is a 10-year-old Portuguese Water Dog who, by Ben's own admission, is a "spoiled brat" who would leave Ben without a second thought if Brooke were in the room. Then there is Roxie, a one-eyed Yorkie with a limp who was rescued just last year and has fit right in. Their four-legged crew is a reflection of the family's warmth and their connection to the community. Ben and Brooke are proud supporters of Acadiana Animal Aid, along with several other meaningful organizations, including Hogs for the Cause, a nationwide fundraising effort for pediatric brain cancer, and Camp Bon Coeur, which supports children with congenital heart defects.

When they are not working, the Torians are usually cheering on LSU or UL (the house is divided: Ben is an LSU grad, Brooke a Ragin' Cajun), traveling somewhere tropical or mountainous with a firm no-sneaux policy, or enjoying the River Ranch lifestyle they have grown to love. And if you happen to catch them cruising the neighborhood on a golf cart, don't be surprised if it's 90s rap or outlaw country coming from the speakers, a combination they will happily own. Their favorite local spots to enjoy a meal include Cujino, Jane's French Cuisine, Park Bistro, and Ruffino's. At home, though, it is Brooke who rules the kitchen. "Anything Brooke cooks is my favorite," Ben says simply. "She is phenomenal in the kitchen.”

Ask them what they love most about living in River Ranch, and the answer is immediate: the convenience of golf cart living and the people. "The people in the neighborhood quickly become friends," they share. And for Ben and Brooke, that sense of belonging is not something they take lightly. From sponsoring Ragin' Cajun athletics to supporting the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, they are a family that invests in the community around them, just as that community has invested in them.

It all started with a football game and a very clever refusal to give directions home. But what Ben and Brooke have built together is something far greater: a family rooted in love, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the life they have made here.
