Love in the City of a Hundred Spires

Hailey and Josh's Winter Whirlwind in Prague

In this edition, we are delighted to share the enchanting adventures of Hailey Galuppo and her boyfriend, Josh, who embarked on a recent exploration of Prague's rich culture and history. As a couple separated by distance – with Josh stationed overseas – they have forged a unique tradition of meeting in a new city every three months. Their journey through the heart of Prague, a city steeped in history and adorned with winter's magic, unfolds as a testament to the resilience of love and the discovery of shared moments in unexpected places. Join us as we dive into their captivating story of romance, cultural immersion, and the joyous surprise that Prague had in store for this adventurous duo.
The city's allure hit us full force as we entered the Old Town of Prague and came upon the Christmas market, the second-best in Europe, – bustling streets adorned with lights and filled with the sweet melodies of the season.
Amidst festive activities and carols, we discovered a poignant history. Under communist rule during World War II, Prague's citizens, once religious, were stripped of their freedom and faith. The market became a cherished time for families to unite in peace, laughter, and shared moments.
To navigate Prague's culture, we embarked on a Christmas tour, savoring local delights like mulled wine and European-style hot chocolate. Our guide, Teresa, shared the tradition of December 1 marking the start of baking season, filling homes with the irresistible aroma of delectable treats. The three Christmas markets revealed hidden gems and local traditions.
Challenges arose, notably the biting cold and a language barrier. Patience became our ally as we braved the weather and navigated the unfamiliar language, reinforcing the importance of adaptability during travel.
For fellow travelers, we recommend Prague's iconic astronomical clock at night, indulging in mulled wine, and dining at Ribs of Prague and Staromáček. Our culinary adventure included bread dumplings, goulash, and a lamb knuckle with mashed potatoes.
Amidst the enchanting cityscape, I received a memento that surpassed all others – an engagement ring! Prague witnessed Josh's heartfelt proposal, and amidst the historic charm, I joyfully accepted. As we left, our hearts carried not just the magic of Prague but the promise of a shared future.
