A Stroll through the Inspiring Home of Neighbor Charmaine Smith

Golfers know this home by the “Wolf-Whistle” they hear when they pass it on the 7th hole cart path, others know it by its radiant beauty on the front. Charmaine and her late husband, Brad Smith, certainly knew what they were doing when they built their one-of-a-kind home on St. Therese Blvd. eight years ago!

This home certainly has many unique features from the roof lines, unique building materials, and the custom color designed fabricated-slate roof.  Given that Brad owned Brad Smith Roofing, it comes at no surprise that the Smiths were the first in the US to have that special roof which was designed by the same company that does all the roofs for Disney!

Unique to this home also is that the entire house was done with the theme of mixed metals in mind. Charmaine had help from various freelance designers and had several places she liked to research when designing new spaces:  Chez Del (Akron); Leopold’s (Brecksville); Arhaus (Westlake); Details (Avon); Z Gallery (On Line); And, Restoration Hardware (Beachwood).  The Smith’s did most of the designing when they built, but it is always a process of change and new color schemes as time goes on.

Chramaine’s home is very inviting and comfortably hosts many social gatherings especially during the holidays. This certainly explains why Chramaine enjoys the first floor open spaces and the luxury of having everyone in the same room. She not only has a keen eye for designing her home, but also she has a gift of decorating for the holidays both inside and outside of the home. Many have come to enjoy the large Santa and reindeer on the front side of their home, as well.

If she could do it all over again Charmaine would have made her laundry room larger, but overall she is very happy with how her home turned out. If you are planning to design your home Charmaine suggests you have a plan and color scheme for what you want to change.  The paint color is a simple answer to solving little changes and pillows  can make a difference without a lot of expense.  She believes it is  always in the details, like the  accessories, which make a home unique and cozy.

Thank you, Charmaine Smith, for sharing your lovely home!
