Sam Toniolo
A Remarkable Journey From Brazil To Avon Football Stardom
Sam Toniolo’s story is one of grit, perseverance, and transformation. A senior at Avon High School, Sam moved to the United States from Brazil in 2014 at the age of 7. Growing up in Brazil, he was deeply passionate about soccer and quickly became skilled with the ball. He played travel and club soccer until his freshman year, when a serious arm injury forced him to step away from the sport.
While recovering, Sam began playing catch with friends at the Avon High School football stadium. It was here that the Avon football coaches noticed his potential and encouraged him to give football a try. With little experience in the sport, Sam joined the Avon Eagles football team as a sophomore and rapidly developed into one of the team’s most valuable players.
Over the next three years, Sam played a crucial role in helping Avon win its first-ever State Championship. His defensive abilities were recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Lombardi Award as the best defensive player in the county, and first-team selections for the county, conference, and district. He also earned third-team All-Ohio honors.
Sam’s remarkable rise in football didn’t go unnoticed. His achievements attracted interest from several universities, resulting in over 11 scholarship offers. This week, Sam committed to the University of Toledo, where he will continue his football career in the Mid-America Conference (MAC), competing at the highest level of college football.
In addition to his football success, Sam is also a starter on the Avon varsity basketball team. His story is an inspiring example of how hard work, resilience, and an openness to new opportunities can lead to extraordinary accomplishments.
