Cruising the Mediterranean with the Immler’s

The Summer of 2024 was one to remember for the Immler family: Wes, Ellen, and their son, Weldon. In June, the family took a 12-day Mediterranean cruise, allowing them to visit Athens, Olympia, Corfu, Cephalonia, Santorini, Greece, and Bari, Italy. It was the first cruise experience for all of them, so they had no idea what to expect and were grateful not to get seasick on the ship.
The couple had always wanted to visit Greece for the scenery, culture, and history. They enjoyed lots of delicious local cuisine including Greek salad, tzatziki, saganaki, and kolokithokeftedes (Greek-style zucchini fritters). Weldon even tried and liked cuttlefish on the cruise!
The family visited many historical sites including the Acropolis, Olympia archaeological site (where the first Olympic Games took place), Corfu Old Town, and Basilica San Nicola. They also experienced gorgeous views exploring Corfu, Cefalonia, and Santorini. Weldon enjoyed swimming in the rooftop pool overlooking the city of Athens, playing on the beach in Paleokastritsa, and dancing to live music on the cruise.
Would the Immler’s ever revisit the Mediterranean? They enjoyed the local dining, wine, and scenery and would like to go back and spend more time on one or two of the islands. Though the cruise was a great way to see several islands, they would have loved more time at each port. They also discovered that the weather in Greece in June/July was very hot, so maybe they will revisit it during another season!
The Immlers have lived in Red Tail since they built their home in 2016. Many of the men know Wes from the many golf tournaments he has participated in, some of which he has won! Ellen joined the ladies' 9-hole league last summer and we are sure to see three-year-old Weldon on the course winning some championships himself soon! When asked what they liked most about living in Red Tail, they responded, “It’s a beautiful community and we love the convenience of golf in the backyard.”
