Imagine a fitness facility, with a one-on-one personal trainer who puts his heart into each client to help them reach their individual fitness goals. Such a place exists at Franklin Fitness at 1914 Bay Road by Riccos Pizza. Jeremy Franklin, owner and trainer recently sat down with me for an interview followed up by Peggy, one of his regular clients.
 
Jeremy, how did you get into fitness? Ever since I was about ten, I have been interested in building a strong body. I later became interested in diseases and finding ways to make people better. In college, I chose to study psychology because I was interested in the journey from unhealthy to healthy. All this led me to a career in personal training where I could combine all my interests to help others.
 
 How do you assess new clients? We discuss any injuries, and their future goals, and find out if they are ready for change. I check weight and body composition. I track their performance each session and discuss their diet. Weight loss is one of my specialties.
 
Describe a typical session. There is no typical session and it depends on the client. I use a QHR360 machine for training. It builds muscle by weight resistance. Optimally working out twice a week for 20 minutes, clients develop stronger muscles, better bone density and a higher metabolic response.
 
How do you encourage your clients? I believe in being authentic and leading by example. I practice what I preach in exercise and diet. I believe in positive reinforcement and being truthful with my patrons. I care about them and their results.
 
Why should someone choose your program over another training program? Most of my clients are over 50, so whether it be rehabilitation, strength training or diet strategies, I can help them get the best body they can. This program is time efficient too, so instead of spending two hours in the gym, people can get a total body workout in just 20 minutes. The use of eccentric and concentric movement to work your body in every dimension produces amazing results.
 
Interview with Client, Peggy age 79
 
Peggy, why do you use a personal trainer?  I always did something for exercise and at 79, I want to be strong, active and maintain good balance. My husband joined Franklin Fitness when it was Quick Hit and had good results so I quit my gym and joined Jeremy. After one year, I feel this place has a better gym culture.
 
What kind of results have you seen? My shoulders and arms are more defined and my legs are stronger. It’s like a muscle “wake-up” every time I come. My body feels activated.
 
How does Jeremy encourage you? Having belonged to other gyms, I see that Jeremy has an interest in the whole person. He asks questions to see if I am getting enough rest and eating well. He wants me to succeed. I know nutrition and Jeremy is very knowledgeable.
 
What are your fitness goals and have you achieved them? I didn’t have specific goals but I go to Jeremy 3 times a week for 20 minutes which is better than the hour I used to spend in the gym. Now at 79, I am more fit than I expected to be and I have more definition.
 
What is the best thing about training at Franklin Fitness? 
I feel absolutely positive when I leave. I know my body is getting better and stronger. Exercise, attitude and eating right are the answers to keeping my body healthy.
 
Would you recommend Franklin Fitness? Yes, I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t benefit. This place is great for people who want personal attention and don’t want the typical gym setting. Franklin Fitness leaves me feeling more alive in my skin!
