Charlotte Youth Rowing

Founded in 2000, Charlotte Youth Rowing (CYR) is a competitive and developmental club rowing program open to middle and high school students in the Charlotte area. The team is made up of approximately 70 athletes ranging from 6th to 12th grade, with one head coach, one assistant coach and nine volunteers. In 2022, a historic number of CYR boats placed at regionals and qualified for nationals. At USRowing Nationals, CYR teams placed 2nd, 11th, 16th and 25th in the nation. Practices take place on Lake Wylie.

CYR is starting its 2023 season and looking forward to more success and growth. According to Program Director and Head Coach Katie Ognovich, “Our mission is to develop young athletes into young adults through the discipline, hard work, leadership and teamwork the sport of rowing encompasses. Our athletes can go on to row for club collegiate teams all the way up to the reigning NCAA D1 championship team. Our success is not possible without each athlete and the values we hold as a team. And of course, going fast is fun!”

This summer, CYR will offer four summer camps in July and August. No experience is necessary. For more information, visit charlotteyouthrowing.org.
