LD Williams Concrete is a true rarity, as it not only remains locally and independently owned but is also a third-generation business. The Williams family was part of the original architects who helped build Preston and were pioneers in North Carolina’s stamped concrete industry, as a cousin brought all the cutting-edge ideas from the West Coast over to the Northeast.

The business was first begun in the 1970s when Larry’s father, Isaac Williams, decided to become an owner. Larry began working with his father as a young boy, learning to operate various pieces of equipment. Together, Larry and his lovely bride, Tosha, who has been married nearly forty years, took over the business in 1989. They have two daughters, Brea (37) and Lia (33), and a son, Kyle (31), who have all been taught the trade as well. 

“We taught the kids how to do everything,” Tosha explained. “As soon as our daughters got their driver's licenses, we had them learn how to drive the Duly truck and pull the bobcat. They were scared at first, but now they can drive anything!” 

Tosha and Larry attribute their success to having a close family. From a young age, they took their children on multiple family vacations together, which they continue today. They use these vacations to brainstorm new ideas, bond, network, and show each other support. Some of their favorite vacations include Hawaii, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Their travels often inspire their designs back in the United States. 

“We wanted to expose our children to various cultures, let them see and experience other lifestyles, and get them out of a bubble,” Tosha said. The family is especially fond of water sports, skiing, hiking, and camping. 

Larry also emphasized how being a family-owned business allows him to provide customers with the highest level of service and quality. 

“When it’s your own family business, you give it your all,” Larry explained. “You can keep a close eye on quality, service, and the important details that matter and make all the difference.”  Tosha agreed, adding, “Our closeness is what will allow us to continue our legacy,” she said. 

And that it will! With three grandchildren already and a fourth on the way, this family will soon be adding another generation to their business.
