Elliott, Powell, Baden and Baker, Inc Provides Help And Hope to The Portland Community

Serving a hot meal for Feed The Hungry

Elliott, Powell, Baden & Baker Insurance is an independent, full-service multi-line Insurance agency based in Portland, specializing in home, auto and business insurance. Founded in 1950, Owner, Marc Baker, is a native of Portland and a second-generation owner who became President and CEO of EPBB in 2007.  After joining EPB&B in 1994, Marc worked alongside his father, Neil Baker, until Neil’s retirement in 2000.  A dedication to their customers, building solid relationships and striving to provide an exceptional customer experience has made EPB&B one of the premier insurance agencies in Oregon. That dedication does not stop there.

Giving back to the community is a core value at EPB&B Insurance.

“Portland is where we work, play and call home,” says Baker. “Every year, the team at EPB&B makes it a priority to give back to our community and support various charitable organizations that work tirelessly to offer services to those who may otherwise fall through the cracks.”

This mission of giving back inspired Marc and his wife, Sherri, Creative Strategist at EPB&B, to create the Baker Family Foundation (BFF). The Baker Family Foundation is a 501c3 that works in conjunction with EPB&B to funnel community donations and corporate sponsorship money to the local non-profits EPB&B so generously supports. Whether serving a hot meal to people in need, supporting the arts through youth scholarships, offering help and hope to families who are struggling, or giving animals a second chance, the team at EPB&B wants to be a part of it.

These philanthropic efforts set EPB&B apart from other businesses in the community. So much so, EPB&B has been recognized with a Portland Business Journal’s Top Corporate Philanthropy award annually for over a decade, coming in at number three on the list in 2022.

The most significant annual fundraising effort at EPB&B is their Annual Industry Holiday Open House. The goal of the Open house is two-fold; to thank their professional partners for their collaboration and partnership over the past year and to raise money for Portland area non-profits. In 2022,  EPB&B raised $15,000 for Children's Healing Arts Project, an organization providing innovative and inclusive healing arts programs free of charge to children, teens, and families affected by pediatric illness, disability, and special needs, and One Tail At A Time PDX, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals by providing humane, individualized care and a chance to know the comforts of a loving home through advocacy, education and support.

The EPB&B team is busy all year long. Here are some of the organizations EPB&B has proudly supported in 2022/'23 through fundraising and hands-on involvement.

Project Never Again: Due to limited resources, most children entering foster care are often removed from their homes with their belongings in trash bags. PNA’s sole mission is to help children avoid the humiliation that comes through that experience by providing dignity and compassion through duffel bags. This past year not only did the EPB&B team participate in PNA’s courage card and duffel packing events, they successfully secured a $10,000 Make More Happen Award through Liberty Mutual/Safeco Insurance.

Feed The Hungry: Once a quarter, a group of EPB&B team members grabs aprons and spoons to support this local nonprofit dedicated to serving a hot meal every Sunday to needy people. As a long-time supporter of this organization, this past year, EPB&B donated $5,000 to support FTH in its mission.

Path Home: In October, EPB&B hosted a fundraiser for Path Home at Providence Park. Path Home empowers homeless families with children to get back into housing — and stay there. Every year, Path Home provides services to over 450 families — over 1,400 kids and parents. Guests enjoyed cheering on the Timbers and had the opportunity to learn about Path Home and the positive impact they have in the community.

Oregon Music Hall Of Fame: Last October marked the fifteenth consecutive year Elliott, Powell, Baden, and Baker proudly sponsored the Oregon Music Hall of Fame (OMHOF) induction ceremony. One of the most significant outcomes of generous OMHOF sponsorship is the ability to offer yearly scholarships to selected graduating Oregon high school seniors who, along with extensive community involvement and exceptional academic achievements, have exhibited serious accomplishments in their musicianship.

Stone Soup: Holiday magic happened in December when Stone Soup was highlighted in the Willamette Week's Give! Guide! As a supporter of Stone Soup since its inception, EPB&B was thrilled to offer a donor match of up to $5,000 to support their continued mission of providing food service, workforce development and hands-on culinary expertise to people at risk of homelessness.

“We are grateful for our customers, our team and our professional partnerships. They are what make EPB&B a thriving Portland business,” says Baker. “We are steadfast in our mission of paying our success forward and grateful to be a part of the support network for these well-deserving non-profits.”
